Many workgroups are tempted to fall into group thinking tendencies. This strategy helps in preventing dissent as well as the need to preserve harmony and in fights. However, these strategies often never produce the desired fruits and sometimes call for the managers’ decision-making ability in the group’s effectiveness and productivity. As a manager of my workgroup, I am required to evaluate and examine the type of decision needed to be established, the kind of information necessary for consideration and assess the essential functions in which each member can partake. I will also consider the critical decision to be made according to their priorities. I will also need to view all the essential factors necessary to enhance the decision-making process and its implementation. Establishing a framework and models that assist the group members in the daily activities will help improve the decision-making process.
My team will have an individual who will act as the devil’s advocate by offering diverging options and perspectives. As a group, we will have the first need to identify the problem. The entity will be required to be courteous by not taking the decisions to be personal. As the workgroup manager, I will break up the groups into the smaller group making the advocacy function more productive. The devil’s advocacy role will be required to offer criticism to the opinions based on the missing points or question the proposed ideas.
