Dear Helen Ariwodo,
Your discussion clearly explains the concept of a healthy and unhealthy work environment and the importance of ensuring a healthy environment in a healthcare setting. Hence, I agree with your explanation that civility is essential in achieving a better and healthy healthcare workplace environment. In turn, a healthy work environment results in better services and quality and safe care to patients (Clark, 2015). I agree with your discussion that incivility in the workplace is costly to the organization, significantly when it harms patients due to personal conflicts and issues interfering with the job environment.
According to your post, your workplace Clark Healthy Workplace Inventory Assessment score is 74, which falls under a moderate healthy environment, which you have attributed to the well-structured environment, teamwork and, collaboration (Clark, 2015). Despite this, you also add that lack of including staff in decision making contributed to the average score. I agree with your discussion about incivility being a significant cause of an unhealthy work environment and involve destructive behaviors resulting in negligence of responsibility, causing more harm. I support your discussion about a lack of motivation and acknowledging the best employees, which is significant in the different organizations resulting in underperformance. In addition to your post, lack of motivation creates a dull environment hindering the development and introduction of ideas and innovation, lowering performance and quality of services.
The incivility scenario you experienced is immorality and lack of safety in your organization, chiefly protecting healthcare workers who expose themselves to harm when providing care services. .Your solution to this issue is the development of protective measures the staff from unsafe and angry patients, such as adequate security to enhance the provision of services (Skalny, 2018). In addition to this, healthcare setting providing services to psychiatric patients should be adequately structured and secure to avoid causing harm to themselves and others
