Witchcraft
Witchcraft is a familiar character in the widely held in the western imagination. From Star Wars to the wicked queen of Snow white, witch-like and witches characters are used to entertain as well as scare generation of old and young alike. However, forest dancing of folklore and myth are witches of different caliber; these are the serious individual whose intention is neither to entertain nor to scare but to practice a faith that the majority of them have faith in and dates back to the beginning of humankind. Drawing upon creating one and old traditions, these witches follow a quest for human transcendence, experience, and mysticism. The specific path to religious expression followed by witches might be at first glance seem bizarre and alien-totally out of we sometimes imagine pleasingly is a secular society. However, our community is not as religious as we may tend to think. The religious beliefs currents run deep in the world, and witchcraft is one such current. However, it might not be that huge, and as such worthy of interest and understanding on the section of students of modern American culture.
The study of witchcraft as a behavioral and belief system using the scientific method is within the broad type of the sociology of the Occult. Recently, there has been an emergency of the occult sociology as a specialty discernible in social science that dates back only to the 1960s. However, the literature is not that large but is increasing as the secret study groups expand in academic respectability.
As a sociologist, I will conduct a study of witchcraft and satanic rituals through observation and participation field research with a coven of witches. Through that research, the primary goals, the first goal will be a contribution to the basic occult religions ethnography, the current effort is a case study that projected descriptively to stand on its virtues. The second goal will be to go beyond the analysis and description of a single coven and try to express some insights of a nature that is more general that may be of some understanding utility the broader witchcraft phenomena. The second effort will be confined widely in the concluding parts, wherein I will present an archetypal of how groups of witches develop.
Of late, while watching television, I happen to come across an interview in a local news station of some witches. Therefore I will have to contact them, and from my investigations, I have learned that it is not that hard to get them for an interview.
I will also use two primary methods for collecting data. For the intentions of direct observation, I will freely interact with the observers or members/participants in coven rituals or meetings. When recording observations, I will take notes after interacting and leaving witches. I will make/record notes on rare situations while interacting with them. My rationale for this strategy is to remain as unobtrusive as possible while observing with the witches. I will also supplement the observing method by individually interviewing members of witches either in my home or their homes. Generally, I will focus my interview efforts on persons who, in one way or the other, will be the most active in coven matters. I will have prepared a set of questionnaires that will contain some questions such as age, occupation, the duration that they have been in witchcraft.
Additionally, I will extend my interview to those who practice satanic rituals. Some evil members publicly confess that they are members of Illuminati and therefore practice satanic rituals. But in every case, I will range over an extensive range of topics. These interviews will be more of a casual conversation at meetings with the coven and hopefully will yield a great deal of information. I am also aware that some coven may not be willing to be publicly known; to cover them in my research, I will prepare secrete questionnaires for then and distribute them to areas that are known to contain witches. I will ensure that questionnaire will address anonymous individuals to conceal their identities. And for those that coven will decline, my invitation will rely upon accounts of the informants, and I will also cross-check the reports given by the informants.
I will use the information that I will gather from interviews to confirm and supplement impressions that would have risen from my observations. Further, to advance knowledge regarding events previous to my research involvement with the coven. For connection, the information that I will have gathered from the high priest of the Sword coven will be precious.
