Why Superheroes Are Popular
Superheroes are a kind of the heroic stock characters who have supernatural powers and also dedicated to the fighting their universes evil and also protecting the public. They can also be said to be benevolent fictional characters having the superhuman powers. Superheroes, therefore, make use of their powers in countering all crimes while at the same time combating threats against humanity.
Superheroes are therefore very popular because of many reasons. Firstly it is because they are simple to market and also sell. For instance, Hollywood is more like an octopus with tentacles which extend across the world. Nearly seventy percent of the yearly revenue of the studios of box office is got from the international markets. When these studios use millions of money in making a film, that means that they are willing to be viewed by more and more people across the globe. Superheroes hence being very famous worldwide are considered to be a safer bet. Whether it’s in Portugal, United States, India, or any place in the word every person knows the identity of the Batman and the iron man (Burke, 2008). Therefore studios do not need to splash millions of money in the creation of the awareness about the superheroes.
Secondly is the reality behind the mask. In today’s films, superheroes display a level of humanity that is astonishing. They go through life-altering experiences that a person can easily relate. Considering their origin stories, all superheroes have gone through a particular type of trauma during their childhood. This tragedy is significant in inspiring heroes in taking of the mantle. Superheroes hence inspire and give coping models’ with injury and loss. They show people that characters are formed in crisis henceforth the best method to deal with anger and grief is through channelizing them for a noble cause.
Male superheroes have impacts on boys. For instance, the superhero of today is more like an action hero participating in violence that is nonstop (Roblou, 2012). The superhero is a sarcastic, aggressive and sporadically speaks about the virtue of being kind to humanity. When not in their costumes, these men make exploitation of women, convey their manhood with guns that are high powered and also, exploit women. Therefore these are not values boys can look up to hence making the boys vulnerable to such evil characters as they try to follow their steps.
Female superheroes also have an impact on girls. Unlike male superheroes, female superheroes inspire girls’ confidence. This is because the female superheroes usually make the girls more strong, confident, brave, motivated and positive. They also empower the girls to feel like they can get anything that they think of in mind. The female superheroes have also helped girls view themselves as leaders (Burke, 2008). Girls envision themselves in the roles of leadership the moment they watch themselves reflected in the movies of superheroes. Girls seeing females in the superpower movies makes them believe that they can get anything they put their mind into. Therefore female superheroes represent girls digitally to the media a very significant matter. These characters have therefore propelled young women to be involved in the technology and sciences a field that girls are not represented adequately.
