WHY HAS THE USAGE OF CLOUD COMPUTING INCREASED?
Cloud computing refers to the technology that allows a business to keep its servers and data offsite in secure data centers that can be opened by users through the use of the internet. Most computer users have been using cloud computing without their knowledge. Computer users type a query into Google, and the words travel to hundreds of thousands of Google’s personal computers, which promptly send results back to you. To do that, safer and more secure storage has been in demand. For example, Soundcloud, an online audio distribution platform, offers musicians a safer and secure way to upload their music, and subscribers can listen to their music for free by streaming (Rajan & Jairath, 2011). From any device, musicians and subscribers can create a collection of tracks, and the music is stored in the cloud. A single copy of all the music that exists is uploaded. Soundcloud alone knows where the music is being stored. Why has there been a sudden rise in the usage of Soundcloud, which is cloud computing? Cloud computing has been influenced by digitization because they can have access to information and change existing products and present new business and delivery techniques including the impacts of Corona Virus which have caused an increase in cloud computing.
Cloud computing has become the fastest growing technology in the advancing world. It has facilitated the access of applications and data around the world so long as there is an internet connection. Studies have shown that there is a sudden increase of cloud computing as an independent application, in terms of computing, where applications can be accessed using a browser and can be deployed on millions of computers at one time (Antonopoulos & Gillam, 2010). Also, 20% of enterprises believed that their yearly spending exceeded $ 12 million, and 74% indicated that cloud expenditure exceeded $1.2 million per year. These figures represent a considerable “increase over last year, in which 13 percent of enterprises reported an annual spend of more than $12 million, and 50 percent reported yearly spend of more than $1.2 million (Singh, Jeong & Park, 2016).
Since 2020, more computer users and technology companies have increased in cloud computing. Weins wrote that an increase in spending in cloud computing is expected to grow almost fifty percent this year. However, companies still struggle to forecast expenditures accurately. As a result, companies must optimize cloud spending, followed by migrating more workloads to the cloud servers. A majority of companies expect to increase cloud computing usage due to COVID-19 (Gong et al., 2010).
Since the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, cloud computing has increased because countries have implemented stay-at-home orders, employees working from home, nonessential businesses shut down, and specific industries have experienced substantial economic impacts. This has caused an enormous demand for storage for computer users. Computer users have spent more time on computers because of draconian laws, without a doubt, due to COVID-19. Weins specified a subset of 187 survey respondents indicated how they expect COVID-19 to change their cloud computing plans. According to Weins, some of the increase resulted from the extra capacity needed for current cloud-based applications to meet increased demand as online usage has grown. As the pandemic takes its course, some organizations may also find that cloud computing offers a more reliable option for business continuity (Gong et al., 2010). Therefore, it is important to understand the impacts of the Corona Virus in cloud computing.
COVID-19 has caused an uproar for safer and more secure computer storage systems. As we journey into the future, most companies will adopt this technology because other computer storage systems have proven an alarming rate of being hacked. Weins also wrote, “59 percent of enterprises expect cloud usage to exceed prior plans due to COVID-19” (Gong et al., 2010). Companies must budget to accommodate this technology or enhance their computer platforms by adding this technology.
Weins stated that cloud computing continues to rise in all organizations. There has been a significant increase in companies’ budgets for cloud spend, and the COVID-19 outbreak has driven that spend even higher. The stay at home orders has had a significant impact on cloud computing. As the world goes through this pandemic, cloud computing has enabled businesses to secure their data.
