Video review: Ancient Egypt

Ancient Egypt stretched as far north as modern-day Syria and as far south as modern-day Sudan. It used to be an empire divided into two regions; the upper and lower Egypt, with a series of independent cities along the Nile River.  About 100 B.C., the two regions merged and formed, which had a reign of five major periods of prosperity; early dynastic period, old kingdom, middle kingdom, new kingdom, and the late kingdom (Ancient Egypt). It was ruled by about 300 rulers who were commonly known as Pharaohs and were considered as protectors of the people and acted as mediators between humanity and the Gods they worshiped. Pharaohs were believed to become gods after they died and were buried in special tombs with all the things they require afterlife (Ancient Egypt). To this day, pyramids of Giza still exist, showing us the great work done by the Egyptians for many years using building techniques still used to date (Ancient Egypt). River Nile provided water for dams constructed along the Nile valley, which was flooded to produce food for the Egyptians. Ancient Egypt used hieroglyph writing, which was used to inscribe monuments and potteries and decorative purposes (Ancient Egypt).

CRITIQUE

Ancient Egypt did not comprehend well on the time that the ancient pharaohs ruled (Ancient Egypt). Despite that they knew hieratic writing where they could write using ink, they did no document properly on how the pyramids were built. It’s seen that the builders were initially thought to be slaves, statements that later changed during modern archeology. They should have done proper documentation of this happening so that the same knowledge could be used to make modern Egypt even better.

The ancient Greek historian Herodotus did not speak the language of Egyptians and hence mostly relied on translators and guides. Some of the narration they give are strange and outlandish. It is a clear indication that they are not true. He could have been given the wrong information or failed to understand what he was told. The best approach was to understand fully the language of ancient Egyptians, hieroglyph writing so that he could interpret the finding for himself without help from others who could have misguided him.

Sphinx was one of the most famous treasure and are slowly turning to dust though still bearing the strong presence of the king used to be decorated to remind us of the great king. Proper measures were not put in place for the maintenance of such statutes, and hence the splendor that we appreciate today will be of higher impact.

The pharaohs had excess powers, and they were the only people allowed I temple together with priests. They were mummified after death; their bodies covered with strips of linen did so that not decompose and later sailed through boat through Osiris. It was believed that they came to life after this. Their bodies should have placed in tombs where they could be used as museums for national heritage.
