Thomas‘s case
Considering the six cases, I am intrigued by Thomas’s case. Thomas’s case is relevant in today’s world, considering many families are struggling with metabolic diseases like obesity, which in most cases, leads to high blood pressure. Most people have embraced ignorance that they assume metabolic diseases are triggered by genetics; little do they know that most metabolic diseases are triggered by environmental factors like frequent feeding from fast food outlets, which do offer high glycemic and insulin index food. This has seen the disruption of hormones in the body like insulin that causes the intake of calories to the body tissues leading to weight and fat gain. Weight and fat gain are predisposing factors for developing obesity that could lead to high blood pressure.
Thomas‘s case is easier to handle since his case is triggered by external factors. These external factors can be easily controlled and avoided at all. By refusing to eat from fast food outlets that do provide unsuitable food is one step in controlling obesity. Avoiding a sedentary lifestyle is necessary to achieve insulin sensitivity; this is key since no weight gain will happen or fat is being stored. Thomas can achieve insulin sensitivity by checking his diet, eating food that is low in glycemic index, exercising, especially doing some combination of weightlifting and aerobics like walking and embracing dieting to help in the fat burn. Not only the help about external factors, but Thomas also needs some guidance and counseling to embrace emotional stability in his mind, needs to be sensitive about checks concerning his health.
Mary‘s case is a bit complicated, considering she is in her forties. All over suddenly, she has developed some physical pain, which one cannot tell it is due to what? Her case needs some serious interventions like learning her history and going to the labs for X-ray scans. As a social worker, I need to be sure about issues that I can handle without much problem.
