The talk
The talk modifies my understanding of the cultural borders, by depicting how politics through demagogues can trigger the urge to cross borders, by stimulating emotional bitterness among individuals belonging to a particular culture. The bitterness initiates reduced supports to one’s culture by criticizing some of the cultural aspects. Therefore, when one loses interest and support of the cultural aspects, there is an urge to seek for an alternative to the other culture that seems to be dominant or to possess more positive aspects as viewed from the demagogues perspective. The ideologies different causes fear of complexity and expression, which make people cross-culture borders to the culture where the aspect they are hiding from the public is accepted. I have little understanding of the emotional factors and how they affect cultural boundaries. But from the talk, emotional intelligence is crucial to maintain culture meaning and identity. The approach modified the understanding as I thought only the internal culture factors, including its elements, can trigger crossing culture borders.
The biggest take away from the talk is how the speaker felt demoralized in turkey after their dreams and coexistence were crushed due to the change in political perception of the scholar’s ideas. Also, it is exciting how scholars who have been demoralized assembled from various nations. It is ironical because the majority of the scholars have the capabilities to develop ideas that can benefit a nation. Still, they are demoralized to an extent they felt that their contribution to their nation operation is negligible. The reason for this demoralization is the taking over by demagogues who triggers the fading of the binary politics identities, and emotions that foster coexistence. Demoralized writers coming together depicts how discriminated individuals or cultures come together intending to initiate revolution that will emancipate them from the hands of oppressors who are the demagogues. The discrimination causes crossing culture border because individuals are less satisfied by their culture aspects and they develop reduced urge to support their cultural elements.
