The “Revolution
The “Revolution: Boston Bloody Boston” is a film that describes how Americans were living before and during the British invasion. The American army had been involved in various battles where it recorded successive failures. The American soldiers were weak at that time, and so they could not match the British military power because it was the world’s most powerful nation during the 1760s. The British, which later become the American’s colonial master, assumed that it would scare any American’s revolutionist movement that would rise against it. However, the British invaded American territories to establish its colonial power to the Americans. The film enhanced my understanding of the American Revolution by explaining causes such as taxation and justified the rebellion of the Sons of Liberty to the colonial policies.
The film demonstrates that the British invasion of the United States was the cause of the American Revolution. Thomas Hutchinson, the British representative of its colonies, imposed forced taxation on the American people, thus angering them in 1756 (“The Revolution: Boston Bloody Boston” 00:01:51-00:02:00). These taxation policies were unbearable to the American people. The taxes imposed were meant to cover the deficit caused by a war that lasted for seven years. The British had sent troops to America to guard its colonies against the French invasion and Indians (“The Revolution: Boston Bloody Boston” 00:03:29-00:03:37). The war cost the British Empire financially for seven years. Thus, since the war implicated the British economy, the colonialists wanted Americans to pay the deficit through taxes.
Given the current states of events and movements in the United States, I believe the Sons’ of Liberty activities were justified because they were meant to stop injustices perpetrated by collecting colonial taxes. The British intended to erode America’s liberty by forcefully compelling the Americans to pay taxes to it (“The Revolution: Boston Bloody Boston” 00:06:13-00:06:15). The self-proclaimed patriots were against the desire of the colonial officials to stock money for the British. Besides, the group sought a common way of repealing for changes in the taxation system. The Sons of Liberty wanted the colonial masters to consider abolishing the Stamp Act used in supporting taxation (“The Revolution: Boston Bloody Boston” 00:06:31-00:06:33). By rebelling, they ensured that they intimidated the king’s partisans through aggressive calls to abolish the taxation. Therefore, since they were against American people’s oppression, their behavior might be viewed as the most appropriate when contrasted with the United States’ current movements.
In conclusion, the “Revolution: Boston Bloody Boston” film contributed to my understanding of the American Revolution’s causes in 1756. The invasion of the British to the American territories was the primary cause of the rebellion that took place in Boston. Thomas Hutchinson lived with Americans well until he was instructed by the British to implement taxation policies to fund the empire. Consequently, the Sons of Liberty mobilized people against the British’s injustices to the American citizens. Besides, some parts surprised me because the Sons of Liberty were so tactical that their activities threatened the British Empire. Therefore, since the movement was fighting against oppression, their actions can be regarded as suitable compared to the current rebels.
