The Importance Of Integrating The Baldrige Concept Into Organizations
Introduction
As part of studies, every organization strives for excellence in its quality and productivity rate. To achieve this, I learned several concepts that organizations use to reach their goals. Such ideas form the basis of excellence, which must be put in place with any organization seeking to maximize productivity. One of the core values that any business seeking productivity must apply is the Baldrige concepts (Toussaint, Griffith &Shortell, 2020). Many organizations that had achieved success in their undertakings had, in a way, applied the Baldrige process. It is essential for any organization seeking quality performance to integrate Baldrige principles into its organizational management. The paper seeks to give the importance of integrating the Baldrige concept into organizations.
Baldrige process and quality
During my studies of the Baldrige process and quality, I have learned several concepts that have continued to enhance organizations’ productivity that employed the Baldrige concept in their management. Since, the Baldrige excellence framework is based on the idea of helping organizations reach their goals, improve on their results and also enables organizations to become competitive (Toma &Marinescu, 2018). Their criteria for performance excellence are based on seven principles that work as a unit to help achieve performance excellence, and the Baldrige process principles have been there since to ensure organizations are appropriately managed. For example, the leadership principle is useful in guiding organizations on how best the leaders can guide and sustain organizations’ running. Also, strategic planning provides criteria for developing strategies and action plans.
I have also learned that many organizations use the Baldrige concept to help achieve customer and workforce satisfaction. The Baldrige principle on customer focus is tailored towards ensuring organizations meet customers’ demands (Parast & Golmohammadi). They are formed so that they focus on meeting requirements, customer expectations, and their preference at large. I also learned that for any organization’s success, they require a disciplined and focused workforce to help meet the organization’s demands.
Organizational issues
Every organization is faced with issues within its structures. The problems could be more les the same for every other organization or differ depending on its nature. Some of the organization’s issues are; organizations with no clear direction (Zainal, Yousuf &Slloum, 2020). As a result, such organizations lack a clear path to follow while performing the duties leading to a collapse. The Baldrige principles are useful in giving the organizations the much-needed direction, focusing on the organization’s plans’ strategic planning.
Another issue learned is the lack of an effective system of communication within the organization. Poor communication in an organization is seen as a significant cause of organizations not achieving their organizational demands (Rozman & Stukelj, 2020). Such organizations, therefore, need to incorporate the Baldrige concepts into their management. As it focuses on ensuring a steady workforce is maintained through effective communication and precise spelling of each employee’s requirements and that of the organization in general.
Lastly, I learned about the failure or inability to incorporate different personalities into a unified team. Most organizations have workers from various backgrounds and varied characters required to be included as a team. A feat that is hard for some organizations to unify their workers. Therefore, the Baldrige is useful for such organizations to unify different personalities in the same organization.
Personal and organizational learning
Organizations should focus on personal and organizational learning as they aid organizations to achieve exemplary organizational performance. I have learned that organizational learning refers to the continuous improvement of the existing approaches or coming up with innovations. For the success of any organization, then learning should be embedded within its systems. Where learning functions as a routine in the daily work schedules and also practiced at all levels, from the personal level to the work unit and organizational level. As it would help solve problems at their root levels. Making organizations work towards achieving the highest organizational performance without much interference.
I also did learn about the benefits of organizational learning that accrues to organizations following the Baldrige process. They include; Baldrige organizational learning, which focuses on innovating and improving new products to meet customer’s values. Also, giving new insight to aid in developing business opportunities. Learning also aids in the reduction of errors, wastes, and defects that may result from the organization. Lastly, it also helps in improving the productivity and effectiveness of the organization’s usage of resources.
A workforce that integrates the learning process within its unit ensures achieving the highest levels’ organizational performance. Organizations can ensure its workforce is kept learning through education, training, or opportunities for members to grow and develop. Personal learning has produced a versatile and more engaged workforce that sticks to an organization. Additionally, learning helps improve the responsive, adaptive, and innovative nature of a person. Helping an organization has an advantage in marketplace performance, while the workforce gains satisfaction and motivation for excellence.
Corporate responsibility
The Baldrige process always champions for the corporate responsibility of organizations. Organizations that incorporate the Baldrige concepts seek to ensure that customers, businesses, and communities are interrelated and work towards achieving a common goal. An organization that ensures it incorporates corporate responsibility can ensure it’s smooth running without much interference to community or customer demands. It can obey the laws of the community and even international law on the operation of businesses. Which gradually helps them operate on the fairground against other competitors.
I have learned that for fairness and smooth running of organizations, incorporating corporate social responsibility is paramount. It helps an organization know how to run its activities without breaking the rules and meeting the customer’s desires. In turn, it helps to achieve organizational performance.
