The History of Modern Europe and the World Wars
1)Describe how the modern state originated in Europe.
Modern State in Europe came from sponsored research program by the foundation of European Science. The agenda of modern State in Europe was to assemble specialists from different countries who would help to form the state for a long period between start of thirteenth and eighteenth century. It was a political association which had an aim to acquire monopoly to use physical force in a given territory.
2)Describe how Europe became the major global power in the 1900s.
Europe benefited from the boundaries set up by the congress which had been formed by victorious Great Powers (Austria, Great Britain, Russia and Prussia). Britain did not involve itself in continental issues that had no effects on their country or did not affect them directly. Nations in Europe formed many treaties and alliances that strengthened the bond among the nations.
3)What is the legacy of colonization?
The legacy of colonization is a gift that a country receives after extending or retaining its authority over other people or nations. The main aim of the legacy is to strengthen the country economically and politically through acquisition of resources.
4)How did the Age of Revolution affect the European states?
Europe States were affected in various ways, namely:
The economic instability led to grievances as a result of early industrialization in Europe. Besides, some ideas during the age of revolution led to emergence of new ideas. However, these ideas went against the social orderliness and institutions, leading to chaos.
5)Did the Industrial Revolution help Europeans? Describe your answer.
Industrial Revolution helped Europeans in different ways. First, it led to an economic transformation that geared up industrial expansion which led to the growth of the economy (Schwab, 2017). There was increase in population by 50 to 100 percent due to introduction of new food crops like potatoes. Population growth was mostly initiated by decrease in epidermic diseases. Overseas market segments were easily accessible, leading to generation of high for European countries.
Second, majority of the people got jobs since many activities were commercialized. The practice led to improvement of standards of living among people.
6)Describe the causes of WWI, and its effects on the international political and economic system.
There were four major causes of WWI:
First, the growth of German power in Central Europe challenged Great Power. Second, the international competition among European powers for colonies and economic markets resulting to a fallout (Shen). Third, there was enmity between German and Great Britain while the European Army became more empowered. Finally, treaties that had been formed were broken.
Effects of WWI include the following:
- End of colonialism whereby people and nations became nationalistic, with new revolts emerging from parts of Asia.
- Improvement of research in technology.
7)Describe the causes of WWII and its effects on the international political and economic system.
The following are the causes of WWII:
- Lack of peace reconciliation systems
- Depression of the whole world due to great debts used during WWI.
8)Explain how the Cold War dominated the international system in the 20th century.
Although the cold war had a direct impact on the Soviet Union and the U.S, it had a huge impact on the international system during the 20th century (Herzog, 2017). During the period, literature became more popular and political analysts gained popularity. It is also during the Cold War that Germany became unified
9)What are some of the major issues that the international system is facing in the Post-Cold War era? Explain your answer.
There have been three major issues attributed to the Post-Cold War era (Tao, 2016). The issues are asymmetrical threats such as terrorism, regional conflicts and crises, and failed states due to poor policies.
