The difference between New England and the Chesapeake Bay

Both the New England and the Chesapeake Bay colonies established their settler colonies in the same context, in that they both relied on agricultural produce as their major source of income. However, despite this, a major difference created itself in their economic profiling and organization. The economy of New England was significantly more diverse compared to that of the Chesapeake Bay. This is because New England practiced agriculture and incorporated diverse trading methods such as shipping of their products, lumber exports alongside the exportation of some of their food crops. On the other hand, the Chesapeake Bay practiced agriculture as well, but their trading methods were rather narrow compared to New England’s. Their economy depended largely on the planting, processing, and exportation of Tobacco alongside a few other cash crops. Consequently, the growth of cash crops demanded more labor; thus, the Chesapeake Bay had more slaves than New England.

Who were the Muslim (Barbary) Pirates?

The barbarian pirates, sometimes known as the Ottoman corsairs, were Muslim pirates alongside privateers who hugely operated from the Northern African states. They were primarily based in the Tunis, Algiers, Rabat, Tripoli, and Sale ports. This area on the coast was referred to as the Barbary Coast. These pirates were predators who majorly operated in the western Mediterranean but extended their operations to the North Atlantic. The Muslim pirates performed raids on the coastal towns of Europe and seized ships. These pirates were driven mainly by the search for slaves for the Ottoman Slave trade alongside the slavery market of the Arabs. The members of the Muslim pirates majorly owed allegiance to the Ottoman Empire.
