Thus, the primary points derived from the book include electronic harassment and student behavior on and off-campus. Electronic harassment includes the use of electronic devices to defame other students and teachers through the internet. Student behavior, on the other hand, incorporates student’s actions towards colleagues and teachers. The secondary points made in the book entail restrictions, discipline, and personal realization from both educators and outside school authorities that help reduce bullying (Hinduja & Patchin, 2014).
The reading depicts acts of bullying from students to teachers. The book gives an example of two students who used Myspace to create parodies of their teachers (Hinduja & Patchin, 2014). The author gives a straightforward narrative of instances of bullying outside the schoolyard. The context of the book is valid because most students and teachers face such atrocities from ill-mannered students. The essence of employing restrictions and disciplinary attributes to students who have ill behavior shows that the narrative is valid. The substantial aspects displayed by Hinduja and Patchin (2014) involve the use of educators, school discipline, and behavioral patterns off and on school. Educators tend to administer restrictions that help curb bullying in school. On the other hand, school discipline offers disciplinary practices in school, while behavioral patterns show student actions towards their educators. The primary weakness depicted in the book is the universality of the school authority. In most cases, school authority is not universal since using the internet as a gateway for communication. There are no authorities to administer restrictions on the internet hence the rise of bullying and harassment, making the narrative a weakness.
The primary limitation, in this case, is the rising use of electronic devices and the internet. The internet is easily correctible when institutions offer restrictions to specific browsing cites that bar students from accessing and bullying others. It is not easy to control human behavior; however, the main points displayed in the context provide situations where human behavior is monitored to reduce bullying instances. For instance, disciplinary practices tend to monitor students on and off-campus to help curb bullying (Hinduja & Patchin, 2014). Restriction ideas such as rules and regulations help keep students in check off the schoolyard. The use of technology should also be monitored at homes to help evaluate students’ behavior within society. Educators are the players that have a significant advantage to help reduce bullying; hence their value is in the society is priceless. Educators help in the provision of strategies and implementation to help raise awareness on matters concerning bullying.
