Tesla Motors
Tesla Motors is an American electric vehicle and clean energy company. Tesla succeeded in producing electric cars, battery capacity, solar roofs, related products, and services. Tesla dominated the electric vehicles market in recent years with a factual foundation statement “To accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy.”
For the sake of expanding Tesla’s global market and supply chain, Tesla company intends to build a Gigafactory in China. This factory would enable Tesla to get accessed to the Chinese market. Tesla would also avoid the relatively high import tariffs imposed by the Chinese government. This facility will produce final assemblies of Tesla Model 3 and Tesla Model Y. Its initial production rate is 3,000 cars a week, reaching 250,000 electric vehicles per year. However, the implementation of this project encountered obstacles.
On the one hand, the factory took up to 210 acres of land, which was too large to be deployed. Tesla had to get the approval of the Shanghai municipal government and hire tons of workers. On the other hand, pollution was a threat to the local environment.
To begin with, I would implement a PMBOK process to integrate and sync the project. The five process groups would be initialized: Initiating Process Group, Planning Process Groups, Executing Process Group, Monitoring &Controlling Process Group, and Closing Process Group. The initiating process includes creating a project charter and identifies the project stakeholders. In this case, the major stakeholders would be government agencies, Tesla shareholders, suppliers, employees, and residents. The project charter may define the project’s scope and deliverables. Because it’s a large construction project, the resources required are essential, the team also needs to approach a specific timeline. The planning phase involves quality, cost, human resource management. I would suggest to apply a WBS structure, decompose a large construction into smaller units. Agile management The quality control and quality assurance are critical in this process. A technique called cause &effect matrix would perform analysis for quality control.
Meanwhile, a set of rules and procedures will revolve around environmental issues. The executive team is responsible for regulating waste and pollution. A significant role for the project manager is directing and managing project knowledge and inspecting the work process. Next, communication is a crucial element ensuring different teams correlate well. I would suggest hiring translators for quick and reliable communication between Chinese workers and American stakeholders. Culture difference is likely to hinder communication, which should be noticed. Finally, the monitoring and controlling phase limits the overages and error.
