Good management is what makes a successful organization. This includes planning, controlling, organizing, and directing activities that are carried out in organizations. What matters the most when it comes to management is leadership since it is an integral part of management (Demirkesen & Ozorhon, 2017). The company used in this discussion is known as Rogers communication, a communication and media company based in Canada, Toronto. The company has been there since 1960, which implies that it has a longer history in the market. For this organization to have been there for more than sixty years is an indication of good management. When it comes to technology and innovation, this company has been on the front line bearing in mind that communication and media is one of the operations that depend significantly on technology.

This company fits within the course context because of its organizational structure that impacts its good management. The type of organizational structure primarily determines proper governance.  This company uses a functional organizational structure where employees are grouped according to their responsibilities. These groups include the finance department, customer service, sales department, among others depending on the employees’ skills and knowledge. All these units report to the top management. With this structure, production is more efficient and of high quality since employees with similar skills are placed together. There is one manager that all the employees are answerable to, and this enhances smooth communication and reduces confusion (Topchiy & Tokarskiy, 2018). Most importantly, employees feel confident when working since they understand their duties and responsibilities to the company. The good thing with this is that it boosts their morale and productivity keeps increasing. The hierarchy is simple, implying that mistakes are limited since the manager has direct contact with all the employees.

In addition to organizational structure, there is also the leadership that contributes to effective decision making. The leadership style that is used by organizations plays an essential role when it comes to management. This is because leaders are the role models and their actions matter to the other team members. Rogers communication uses a hierarchy leadership structure. This type of leadership can be divisional or functional. Functional is based on different roles such as marketing, while divisional is based on location. Looking at this company, power belongs to the positions which and not individuals. This implies that abuse of power is minimal. Employees have an opportunity to grow because the management assign duties depending on the skills. Another thing about leadership is that the company has transformational leaders who are characterised by creating changes. These types of leaders focus on transforming others and the organization (Hoch et al., 2018). With the current use of technology and innovations, changes are inevitable, and that is why these types of leaders have proven to be the best, especially in the current world.

There is much to relate to this discussion with what has been taught in class, especially technology management. With the use of Rogers communication as the case study for this discussion, it is evident that those companies that make use of the management tools are successful. Many factors can be considered when it comes to management, but the most crucial include the organizational and governance leadership structure. A primary recommendation from this discussion is that management plays a vital role when it comes to business growth, and what matters the most is the leadership.
