- Target’s Failure
I believe that the leading cause of the failure of Target Canada is the lack of proper strategic planning. First, they wanted to expand without adequate analysis of their strengths and resources. Arguably, they never developed an appropriate channel of distribution, and this gave a heavy blow to the supply chain. The store was understocked, and customers were displeased. Moreover, the strategic plan would have offered more guidance in coming up with competitive measures. The company did not account for the vast competition in the Canadian retail industry, and they had underestimated the threats. The company arguably incurred more losses due to inappropriate planning. Target failed to conduct extensive research on the market, consumer tastes, and preferences. Their strategic plan was ill-advised since it only focused on maximizing profits and expanding the business without the proper information.

Multinational Corporations are beneficial to our community in a variety of ways. First, they offer employment opportunities for the local communities. As is the case in many developing countries, the unemployment levels are relatively high as compared to those in first world countries. MNCs offer various employment opportunities for different people. They employ casual laborers, machine operators, drivers, subordinate staff as well as more skilled and intellectual persons. Arguably they aid in raising the living standards of the community. Secondly, these companies mostly buy raw materials from the country and utilize the various natural resources. The MNCs also contribute to the Gross Domestic Product of a nation and pay tax revenues to the government. Therefore, business operations raise the economy of the host country.
Can business ethics be taught?
Ethics are supposed to be constructed through personal experience and the interrelation with the environment and society. They can be taught, but it would not be easy.
Aren’t ethics something that is ingrained in us from an early age? Yes. Ethics are created throughout a person’s lifetime. However, individuals can learn ethical behavior through exposure to teachings and experiences in the world, even in adult age. It takes more work to teach ethics since they are supposed to be part of a person’s upbringing.
Aren’t unethical decisions a natural consequence of a business’ quest for profit? Firms, in some instances in pursuance of higher margins, may engage in unethical behavior. The primary objective of companies is to maximize wealth and business people may do just anything to ensure that their quest for profit is achieved. Arguably, organizational goals may cause the loss of ethics to individuals or employees whose sole intention is to serve the company.
