Stress and How to Manage the Problem
Introduction
My investigative report will be on the topic of stress. We have studied this topic in Module 21, where we learned different sources of stress, the physiological and psychological responses to stress, and different ways we can cope with stress.
I am going to further my research in this area regarding the different types of stress, how stress affects the mind and body, and how to overcome stress. I find this topic to be very relevant personally, as I suffer from chronic stress. There is no better time for myself than the present to study stress and work on ways to eliminate or cope with stress to help me during my studies.
Annotated Bibliography
Following the article, there is a definition of the three categories of stress about the American Psychological Association, namely; Chronic stress, episodic acute stress as well as acute stress. Each of the above categories of stress occurs differently and for a different amount of time to a person, therefore rendering different symptoms and effects to the individual. Acute stress has a short period when occurring with a characteristic of transient emotional disturbance while episodic acute stress occurring for a more extended period and continuously. On the other hand, chronic stress brings its ultimate effects to the body as well as mind as a result of its lengthy accumulation within an individual.
According to Mayo Clinic staff, the writers of the piece, there is the need to check on stress as necessary as possible mainly as a result of the possibility to accumulate within an individual. In such a situation, stress often renders its harm to the body as well as the brain. Common illnesses due to high-stress levels include; obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes as well as the heart-related diseases.
Helen Scar, in her article, explains the various ways to help manage and avoid stress for an individual with the focus within a studying environment. In the effort of coping with stress, she mentions methods such as taking breaks during the studying time, avoiding possible distractions such as relating with others at the time, being keen to keep sleeping and rest times as well the general ability to manage time.
To understand various symptoms and ways to manage possible in the studying environment, the article goes on to identify various sources that induce stress. Work overload to the learner, lack of proper time management skills, or upcoming tests can be among the various familiar sources. Also, general reluctance towards studies, failing to have a proper organization, and missing enough time to study can contribute towards causing stress.
The article tends to focus more on the chronic type of stress, exploring the various symptoms that might occur on an individual and, at the same time, the various effects of the stress. The article stands with the fact of failure to attend on the chronic stress for an extended time, there is a possibility that one can face serious health challenges. Among the mentioned problems include; anxiety and depression, eating disorders, heart-related conditions, dysfunction of reproductive organs.
Analysis
Stress and stress management is a broad topic that covers various fields, including the legal one. Crime and criminal activities can result from stress, and in several areas of the law, the topic has been discussed. As a result of personally being faced with chronic stress conditions as well as several health reports on the same, I intend to explore the whole concept aiming at explaining the causes, the ability to avoid, manage as well as exploring the effects and symptoms. The current stand that there are fewer ways to manage chronic stress leads me to the investigation of means of managing the problem by researching more ways to deal with such. The research should help patients and doctors in the chronic illness department to understand better ways to deal with and control the above type of stress.
In conclusion, my research will focus on finding the best ways to manage the stress situation in a learning environment. Specifically, the research will focus more on the chronic type of stress, how to identify and manage it.
