States of Consciousness

For many decades, the concept of consciousness has been an important issue in psychology, as it is fundamental to human nature. Initially, scientists used to view the concept as skepticism. However, this has changed as the concept has to turn out to be important in the field of psychology and neuroscience. The concept refers to being aware of the factors within, for instance, thoughts and feelings. Consciousness helps create a reality of what people believe is based on what is happening around them. Thus, consciousness is an important element of achieving a sense of development as it makes people understand what they are doing and why they are doing it. Consciousness is a concept that makes people aware of their thoughts and feelings, thus assisting in the creation of reality.

Consciousness is a psychological construct as it is believed to exist, but it cannot be physically measured.

According to (…), consciousness can be viewed as a continuum because the level of awareness to the surrounding varies, creating levels of consciousness which are high and low. A high level of consciousness is achieved when someone is more aware of the feelings and thoughts about the surrounding. The lever of understanding of the surrounding is referred to as the state of consciousness. The states are grouped into two broad categories, which are normal waking and altered states of consciousness.

Normal walking is a state that is effectively organized, clear, and meaningful. People experience the state when they aware of their views and feeling from the immediate environments. In this state of consciousness, the experience gained is important in creating reality, which provides the baseline of judging other people. On the other hand, an altered state is described as the state of consciousness that differs from the normal waking state. The deviations are marked by differences in people’s level of awareness, memories, and thinking. The state can be produced by psychological drugs, fever, the technique of medication, and sleep. In most circumstances, the altered state of consciousness has cultural significance, and the state can either be induced intentionally or occur naturally.

In conclusion, consciousness is the concept which makes people aware of their own thoughts and feelings to the surrounding. However, the concept is a psychological construct as it is believed to exist, but it cannot be physically measured. Consciousness can be divided into two states based on the level of understanding of the surrounding. Different states of consciousness can be described based on awareness, content limitation, and emotional awareness.
