Social media has played a great role in this modern world. It has connected people from all corners of the earth. Information can be transmitted easily from one person to another. People can send their views and opinions about arising issues in the world. This has enabled institutions and the government to carry out research on the population’s likes and dislikes. Marketing firms have also utilized social media to manage the consumers’ patterns and trends so that they can produce products that satisfy their needs. Social media has also been a great tool used by activists to push for radical changes globally. They have gained a huge following on social media platforms.
Social media provides a platform for activists to champion human rights protection and condemning injustices occurring. Social prejudice and discrimination, such as racism and police brutality, have stirred protests and condemnation because the acts were recorded and posted on social media(Hu, 2020). Activists have sought to seek social media users’ support because they are from different geographical locations; therefore, they can easily achieve their goal. Twitter has been a platform being used to mobilize masses against the societal vices taking place with captivating hashtags such as BlackLivesMatter.
The activist groups and foundations have used social media to seek financial aid from willing individuals across the platforms(Murthy, 2018). Activists groups can now be easily funded to perform its duties with social media’s help since their plea for donations covers a large mass of the population across the globe. The donations have helped them fulfill their missions and goals across the world.
I strongly support the need to implement radical changes and end the vices being witnessed daily across the world. Social media is an indispensable instrument that aid s in the fight against impunity in our society. Social media fuels activism since it is used to champion for equality and protection of human rights.
