The thesis statement is that the sexuality of Emily and Homer was ambiguous meaning that one would not easily identify their true sexuality. I’m afraid I have to disagree with this statement as the author does not give valid evidence as to why he believes there is ambiguity in the sexuality of these two characters. The author issues evidence that by Emily cutting off the hair, she is trying to look like a man which is quite irrational because it might just be out of choice without any intentions to look like a man and the evidence is made based on mere assumptions. Stating that Homer liked young men due to his preference for young men club is quite irrational because it might be just a preference and there is no evidence of him engaging in any sexual activity. It is thus quite irrational to make a judgement on someone sexuality based on his preference for young men clubs. Additionally, the author has based the kind of chain she wears as a way of judging the sexuality of the individual, which is based on choice rather than sexuality.
I agree with the thesis statement that psychological abuse is more common than it seems. The thesis statement is completely on point because many people tend to suffer psychological abuse silently. After all, it is not easily noticeable from outside appearance. The statement is completely rational because, for a long time, many people have been against physical abuse without anyone noticing the growing trends in cases of psychological abuse. By the author stating “is she familiar?” is used to indicate how much people let psychological abuse in the society go unnoticed.
Further, he states that more than 20 people suffer physical abuse from their partners to show that people are more concerned about the physical abuse neglecting the psychological abuse. The fact is that you cannot suffer psychological abuse without suffering from psychological abuse as they are mutually inclusive. Moore pays more attention to the language as he states that “Is she familiar?” to show how much people neglect the issue of psychological abuse.
