Sexuality and intimacy
Question 1
As a young adult, I am curious about how different genders are perceived in various cultures, economies, and different ethnographic communities. Again, it is vital to understand how one will be viewed in multiple societies at work spheres concerning their gender. I think that gender and sex all have a substantial contributing factor to the development of people, firms, and even entire nations. Taking this course will significantly assist me in appreciating the role of different genders, notions regarding sex, and all subject matters surrounding sex that are not often discussed but which have significant effects on the everyday lives of many people globally.
One particular topic I am most interested in learning about is about sexuality and intimacy. I am most eager to learn about the sexuality issue because humanity, for many years, has been discriminatory, and only until recently has the matter been different in a few countries. Thus, I would love to understand more of how to fairly treat people of different sexual orientations who I might have to interact within the school or even in different areas out of school. Finally, I want to learn about intimacy and love, especially following my current generation, where matters such as love and commitment seem backward. I feel that such discussions and readings will be beneficial to my future and in my relations with different people. Nonetheless, I am confident that this will be an exciting course, and I will enjoy every bit of it.
Question 2
This week’s readings have been an eye-opener on matters concerning the evolution of the sex topic in different centuries. I am amazed to understand that the assessment of different concepts and their relation to the sex subject has only come up in the nineteenth century. Likewise has same-sex relationships, which I feel are a contributing factor as to why the embracing of the same has been awkward in some communities. Nonetheless, it is an indication that the current generation and those to come will be more appreciative of such, and it will be easier for people of ‘other’ sexual orientations to feel loved and a part of the system.
Again, the evolution of terms that refer to the embodiment of sex in products might also have strategically made sex-related topics to be part of everyday conversations. This feat was considered taboo in the past. In one way, I think that humanity has reached a point where there is the liberty to discuss varying subjects, and the same has resulted in the mushrooming of terms that are expressive of the struggles that different genders have had through the years (Burgett, 2014). Words such as feminist or sexy are as a result of the growth of liberty over the years. Through such, there has been the outburst of gender-specific notions in economies and politics. It is incredible to understand the critical role that sex and different genders have had to play in the current world that we live in. I believe that the concept will be headed for the greater good for all humans, regardless of their gender or sexual orientations.
