In the article Who Needs Feminism, gender inequality, and sexism identities, there are several concepts of Feminism, Gender Discrimination, and sexism that I agree with. The article uses an event that transpired in the spring of 2012. During the event, sixteen women students of Duke University identified as Professor Rachel Seidman’s women. They are all fighting for the same course, which is why they created a feminist campaign that caught on like wildfire. The campaign persisted until the date. The article focuses on two major aspects that were fighting for. It involved fighting back against the misconceptions created by people concerning Feminism, sexism, and gender discrimination and the second-guessing of whether Feminism is still required in the current world and if there is the need to fight against gender discrimination and sexism (Crossley 2017).
Sexism can be described as prejudice, stereotyping, or discrimination, typically against women based on sex. Gender discrimination, on the other hand, can be described as the discrimination that is based on the sex of an individual. The article has tried to describe that in most of the events that occur worldwide, the women are always kept second in command and discriminated against based on gender in different platforms. The article explains why Feminism is very important in the current world more than in any other era. Men in the world have dominated most of the platforms, and as technology advances, gender discrimination against women is on the rise. I agree that men have looked for different ways to discriminate against women in the current world without women noticing.
The article addresses the different misconceptions that have been created and implanted in the minds of the entire world concerning Feminism. Most of the people still have the notion that feminists are there to prove that women are better than men, and they deserve to be equal or better opportunities than men. This perception that has been created is one of the reasons why sexism and gender discrimination against women are on the rise. However, the article describes that feminist are not there to prove that women are a better gender than men, but to fight for opportunities for women to get a chance to develop the current world. Feminists have no business proving that they are better than men; they believe that no gender is better than the other.
The article goes on to look at the people who need Feminism. According to the author of the article, not all women need Feminism since there are some parts of the world where women’s rights are treated equal to that of men, and they are given the same opportunities. The article’s main purpose is to describe the platforms where gender discrimination and sexism are high and why the women in those areas require Feminism to help them adapt to the male-dominated societies that they live in.
The article gives a good argument about why there is a need for Feminism in some of the platforms and addresses the misconceptions concerning Feminism, gender inequality, and sexism. It agrees that students in higher education institutions, such as colleges and universities, should not be discriminated against based on their gender.
