School Nurses in Management of Care
School nurses play a critical role in the implementation of student’s health during the learning periods in their respective institutions to ensure the wellbeing of students in schools. Their contact with the students enables them to positively identify situations that require specialized treatment and recommend them for further treatment—Additionally school nurse’s aide in the administration of medications to students with various problems. Recent studies show an extent of the ineffectiveness of the nurses in their provision of care.
School nurses possess skills required for the provision of care coordination among the different parties in healthcare. They include providers of healthcare, home and the school. A school nurse works together with these parties to effectively meet an overall student body. However, when practising this role, school nurses efforts may be brought down due to insufficient education on some of the existing and emerging conditions affecting the students. Additionally, some nurses may lack the expertise, and this may become a problem during the provision of care to the students. A research done on school nurses indicated that nurses acknowledged their lack of education as a challenge interfering with their assessment of health concerns among students.
Inconsistency in the coordination among health professionals in schools also promotes the ineffectiveness of school nurses in the provision of care. Often nurses are not included in student’s support teams. It can act as a barrier ton students gaining confidence withy the schools’ nurses. Trust in the school nurses would promote a high standard in the provision of care to students. This will also establish a purposeful journey of the creating of a suitable environment for the students to learn. The position of school nurses as essential guards will enable them to play their required roles.
