Right to vote
Women expected to be given equal voting rights as men. Women also expected to be given electoral rights where they could vie and be elected in positions as men. This could affect the protagonist thinking in a way that they felt threatened by women advocating for change in society.
Right to divorce
Women expected to divorce their husbands, but on the contrary, husbands were the ones to divorce their women on account of unfair treatment and adultery. It is up to 1857 Matrimonial Act was enacted, and women were allowed to divorce, but still, the protagonist thinking felt much threatened by this. The general feeling was that women were gaining much power and rights in society.
Right to work
Women expected to work in the 19th Century, but still, they only worked in the textile industry and mining coal on the surface. Their labor was quite minimal in the economy, but things had to change during the world war in 1914 since their contribution was needed in the entire globe.
