I am very sorry for the sad story about your puppy. Dirty water, in most cases, is not the best for domestic animals and human beings. When water is stagnated at a place, it is likely to be contaminated hence can cause harm to animals. Although your puppy looked healthy, it might have been infected by worms. It would have been wise to de-worm the puppy. Also, to prevent infections by worms or other bacteria that might be found in the water, you ought to have drained all stagnant water around. Human beings, on the other hand, need to drink boiled or treated water all the time.

Indeed, boiling water helps to kill germs. It is a cheap method of treating water in rural areas. Contaminated water can easily cause diseases since it is prone to bacteria. Besides, it can lead to the spread of water-borne diseases. People in rural areas need to be educated on the methods of treating water and should be advised on how to store clean water to prevent it from being contaminated. The government can create programs to help poor people in rural areas access free clean water. Also, there is a need to educate them on how to keep domestic animals safe from contaminated water, hence curbing the spread of water-borne diseases.
