Response on the Effects of COVID-19 on Healthcare Workers
Research on healthcare issues is an important tool in enhancing knowledge in this particular field. Without such knowledge, the quality of health care services is compromised due to the absence of a conducive environment for healthcare workers who operate at their best when maximum cooperation and support is provided. When addressed, it identifies critical issues and promotes mutual understanding among all the stakeholders involved in providing healthcare services. For it to serve its purpose, it must be undertaken appropriately by fulfilling all the requirements. When research on healthcare issues, particularly, covid-19 is properly undertaken, it positively influences the researchers’ opinions by enhancing their knowledge. At a personal level, research knowledge has immensely contributed to changing my perspective on the effects of Covid-19 on health care practitioners.
Studying this topic has enabled me to understand better the effects of covid19 on healthcare workers than I did before. Previously, I assumed that medical practitioners are the least affected populations by the emergency of any disease because they possess the knowledge and resources to address such problems. I did not understand how they can be affected by an outbreak rather than working on ways to minimize the side effects. Considering how infection and death rates were rising, I felt that they were doing very little to save human life. I was confused to see many patients failing to receive medical services, yet the professionals were paid for that purpose. Instead of appreciating them for their efforts towards addressing the problem, I blamed them for every weakness in the sector. I associated them with all manner of inefficiencies and ineffectiveness in dealing with covid-19. I was aware that the disease had severe effects on various vulnerable groups, but I overlooked the healthcare workers’ whole issue. I asserted that knowledge in the medical field was only useful to professionals in healthcare organizations. My knowledge of the disease’s effects on medical practitioners was little, but this research has enhanced it.
Currently, I look at the issue with a totally different perspective. I now understand that health care works are among the vulnerable populations during disease outbreaks. Therefore, their needs should be addressed with a proactive approach to providing a conducive working environment. I now understand that medical practitioners are trying their best to handle Covid-19. Also, I am aware that quality healthcare services involve joint efforts of all the stakeholders. Moreover, I have learned that nurses should be protected from psychological problems that result from a shortage of resources and poor working environments. More importantly, they should be allowed to make decisions independently to enhance their autonomy and responsibility, some of the professional ethics requirements. Their concerns should be addressed immediately to safeguard their lives and the lives of other people. For instance, they should be provided with all the tools and equipment they request to play their roles effectively.
The study has positively impacted my opinions about healthcare issues and those involved in dealing with them. I have always resolved to respect any decision made by medical workers because they do so based on knowledge and expertise. Having realized that healthcare knowledge is useful to everyone, I have decided to expand it through conducting further research. Therefore, I have reexamined my opinions on health care knowledge and decided to work hard to improve medical service quality by motivating healthcare workers. I believe my decision would positively impact the quality of medical services, which would ensure that patients receive optimal care.
Wingfield and Taegtmeyer and McGarry et al. articles are some of the sources that had the greatest effect on my knowledge of healthcare issues. It has provided details on the most healthcare issues affecting healthcare workers. Most of the medical workers’ problems it identifies, such as the fear of being infected and self-isolation, are not addressed in any other article utilized in the study. Next, it provides figures and facts of the healthcare workers receiving medication for covid-19 psychological problems in China. It further addresses the consequences of medical professionals’ psychological problems as they deal with the problem. One of the outcomes of such sufferings is drug and alcohol abuse. Additionally, the article investigates the issue of insufficient healthcare facilities. Another source that inspired me is McGarry et al. because it utilized most of the techniques applied by Wingfield and Taegtmeyer. One of the special things about the essay is that it made extensive use of quantitative data such as figures. I had a little prior knowledge of the use of quantitative data. After reading the article, I acquired more understanding, which would help me tackle related papers. It was a great opportunity for me.
Since the research enabled my consultations with my classmates and my course tutor, I learned various things. Through interacting with the students, I identified and rectified some weaknesses that inhibited my knowledge on the topic. Depending on each student’s different backgrounds that defined their experiences differently, I learned how Covid-19 affected medical practitioners. I also improved my research by comparing the work of my classmates with mine. Besides this, my professor couched me on various research skills to produce a quality paper. Through the professors’ guidance, I learned how to cite and format my work to reduce plagiarism and enhance ease of understanding. To crown it all, my tutor helped in solving complex problems throughout my research period. Therefore, my basic knowledge of writing research papers was highly improved. I think I can confidently handle any research paper for any topic based on the insights I acquired from my tutor.
However, the research did not specify the type of medical practitioner that was mostly affected by Covid-19. Since not all the medical officers were involved in the fight against the disease, the articles should have touched on this matter. That is because every type of medical practitioner is affected differently. Therefore, future researchers should investigate the type of medical professionals who experienced the above-mentioned problems. It would be important to have the report for every medical practitioner so that more details can be examined on the risk factors for every individual. It would be easier to find out how certain people associated with certain risk factors can be handled with that in mind. The major goal would, thus, be to combat new infections and the spread of the disease.
Generally, properly researched healthcare issues, particularly, covid-19 positively influence the researchers’ opinions by enhancing their knowledge. It has increased my understanding and changed my perspective on healthcare workers. Through such a study, I have learned that medical officers should be prioritized during epidemics because they are the most vulnerable group. I have reexamined my opinions on health care knowledge and decided to improve medical service quality by motivating healthcare workers. Wingfield and Taegtmeyer and McGarry et al. articles are some of the sources that had the greatest effect on my knowledge of healthcare issues. To facilitate my project, I consulted with my classmates and professor, who provided me with quality assistance. Through interacting with the students, I identified and rectified some weaknesses that inhibited my knowledge on the topic. However, the research did not specify the type of medical practitioner that was mostly affected by Covid-19.
