Hello Brenda. I find your post encouraging. My brother passed away while at high school, I can relate. I am sorry for the loss of your mother. Despite the challenges, you experienced you finally made it and graduated high school. Based on your post, one can infer that extrinsic factors pushed you to succeed in high school. Extrinsic motivation refers to the desire that originates from outside ourselves to achieve set goals. In this case, making your family proud pushed you to persist and persevere in school. Similar to my life, the immense support and motivation from family have driven me to persist even in times I felt like quitting. According to Sansone & Harackiewicz, extrinsic motivation can be used to get the task done even if an individual is not internally motivated. I wish you all the best in your life and that you attain all the goals you set.
