Question 1: What shortfalls currently affect the freight transport industry?
Question 2: Are the shortfalls just a factor in the United States or an international problem?
Question 3: If these shortfalls are an international problem, how does the United States play a role in changing the freight transport industry?
Thesis statement: Incorporating freight awareness into all aspects of planning, formulating, and executing a nationwide freight transportation strategy, establishing three categories of corridors – those of national, multistate, and regional importance – and identifying shared concerns for these corridors at both the federal and state levels.
Write paragraphs that respond to the questions below, using your thesis statement as the basis for your answers:
- What is my purpose in writing this paper?
Although haulage has returned to some degree of normalcy this year, road freight logistics, the industry primarily responsible for ensuring Americans receive the products they require when they require them, continues to face several obstacles. Trucks transported 72.5 per cent of the nation’s freight (Schuster et al., 2023). However, this critical sector faces significant barriers that make forecasting and strategizing for the future complex. Promoting a policy on freight industry management will be crucial in bolstering the development of this sector and its dedication to meeting domestic demand.
- What do I already know about my topic? What are my feelings toward this topic? My knowledge on the matter is that even though the freight transportation sector serves a vital role in the country’s economy, several factors cripple its success. These include rising costs, staff shortages, the need for digitization, and supply chain distribution. This decade has unquestionably witnessed a transformation in the freight transportation industry, where uncertainty appears to have become a defining obstacle for companies delivering products across the United States on time (Schuster et al., 2023). Thankfully, numerous formidable obstacles presently confronting freight companies are amenable to remedies that rectify present complications and position organizations for more fruitful futures.
- What do my readers already know? What are my readers’ feelings toward the topic?
The conveyance of freight is an essential element of every supply chain and logistics system. Others in society who may not directly benefit from these movements are responsible for the financial burdens associated with transporting goods between cities and nations. Road accidents, air, noise, and water pollution, and the devastation of vegetation and fauna are some of the adverse effects of freight transportation. The negative effects associated with freight movements have increased consistently in most of the globe, including the United States, over the past few decades (Diao et al., 2021). The adverse environmental consequences linked to freight transportation are of significant concern due to the direct and indirect long-term effects, including greenhouse gas emissions and the worsening of global warming.
- What do my readers need to know to understand my point? Freight transportation has been in existed for decades. Both states, federal governments, and the international community have all shown interest in the sector. Thus, the above points may be prevalent in many settings, but there is little energy regarding reinforcement and implementation. By increasing the publicity of the policies among the stakeholders in the industries, there are chances of increased uptake, observance, and improvement of freight transportation (Schuster et al., 2023).
- What information do I need to research and add to my paper? The information most relevant to this paper on which I need to research is about the specific policies that exist and which need to be popularized among the stakeholders. Moreover, it is vital to identify the stakeholders and the respective command chain in the industry (Diao et al., 2021). This will ensure individuals identify with their roles and responsibilities, leading to universal sectoral development and management.
