Reflection on Informal Interview
Sociology can be defined as the study of human social relationships and institutions (Becker, 2). Sociology is a thrilling and informative field of study that is involved in analyzing and explaining the critical issues in our lives personally, our communities, and the world. Thought I knew everything about sociology, I was surprised to hear about the features of sociology that make it a bit hard for other people to understand it. They include emergency, structure, and self-consciousness. These features illustrate the analysis and understanding level which is a concept to sociology. The foremost two features are resulting from the classical tradition and the last one describes the actual process in which the sociologist proceeds, the weird way where a sociologist has the ability to stand aside and looking back upon human nature (DeLisi, 297).
What I knew and was correct about sociology was that sociology offers a firm base in the understanding of systems and people hence the skills that students are developing are useful in an extensive variety of careers and industries. The interview helped me to open my mind to the outside world, how the job market is and the qualities that are required to secure some job opportunities that are related to sociology (Headworth, Spencer, and Jeremy Freese, 1257-1282). I have never thought sociology as a demanding career in the job market and it requires serious grades and qualifications to compete in the job market.
It was surprising when I was told as a sociologist, you are supposed to collaborate with and give advice to other social scientists, policymakers, and other groups on the findings of research and issues concerning sociology (Leefmann, 18). I would like to see the interviewee again to ask him about what things or qualities someone is supposed to have for him or her to be called a sociologist and not find it hard to get a job in this competing job market of sociology. This question is very important to me because my biggest dream is to become an honorable sociologist but with this competing job market, I see my dream fading away from becoming one is fading.
