When do you find yourself least motivated in terms of academics?
I find myself most discouraged in my studies when I encounter a topic or subject that is quite difficult for me to understand while for everyone else, it is a ride in the park. I also get demoralized when I score bad grades after preparing adequately for a test.
What strategies have you learned this week that you could apply in these situations?
The strategies I have learned and would apply are; to tackle the difficult subject by breaking it down into small achievable tasks which can easily be accomplished and need less energy to be expended. This woul, doing a few practice questions daily which would enable me to identify my fortes and my weaknesses, and having short periods of study then relaxing to rejuvenate my mind. In the case of the bad grades, I should not view them as a failure but as a chance to learn about the areas where I fall short and device methods of improving myself like having group study sessions with other students who are excelling in the subject.
After watching the motivational video (ABCs);
What do you think?
I think that success is easily attainable, and failure should not be considered an option in life. We should label ourselves as winners who either win or learn and transform our losses into factors that drive us to improve ourselves. We should believe in ourselves regardless of where we are in life for even an average person can become amazing, a broken person can transform to be blooming, and a confused person can become one with clarity. Being successful is as easy as ABC and 123.
Do you ever watch motivational videos?
Yes, I do.
Do you think they could be helpful?
Yes, I think they could be helpful.
When you watched Tedtalk (How to achieve your most ambitious goals);
What stuck out to you the most?
What stood out the most was that we don’t need to have talents or special skills to achieve even the most impossible goals in life. How we approach the goals we have set is what determines our ability to attain them.
What “takeaway” do you have that you can think of in times when you are not feeling motivated?
The “takeaway” I can think of when I’m faced with a demoralizing situation or when I encounter something that seems unattainable is that, to achieve big ambitions, I need to start by taking small steps and making small accomplishments that will later accumulate into big achievements.
How do you think the concepts from this week and last week (grit, mindset) influence goal setting and motivation?
I think these concepts affect goal setting and motivation by influencing the scale by which people set their goals and their ability to drive themselves and overcome self- doubt so as to attain their ambitions. For instance, people who possess undeterred mettle would mostly set goals that may seem impossible to others and push themselves towards achieving them unlike those who are feeble and craven who would set simple goals and still doubt their ability to attain them.
