Quality Improvement Initiative
The health care system regularly undergoes reforms that aim to make several improvements, such as providing quality health care, reducing healthcare costs, and improving access to health care providers (Salmond, 2017, p. 16). I concur there has been an increase in healthcare prices and clinicians’ shortage (Salmond, 2017, p. 12). Thus, leading to the creation of interventions. Quality improvement initiatives are designed to assess and improve the quality of processes to improve health care services. The initiatives are essential for the health care facilities as they enable effective implementation of change. Quality improvement programs are crucial since they enhance staff efficiency, focus on data use, work as processes and systems, and positive patient outcomes (Salmond, 2017, p. 16). The plans, therefore, enable the health care providers to achieve the goal of improving care delivery and provide them with reliable and sustainable health care processes. I concur with the introduction of documentation to limit the unnecessary use of a catheter, which exposes some of the patients to urinary tract infections associated with catheter use when left for an extended period. Documentation creates accountability.
The magnet accreditation program recognizes nursing excellence, and it is a great quality improvement program (Pabico, 2018, p. 46). The program recognizes that the nursing profession has evolved and has a variety of skills. The attaining of magnet recognition has potential benefits for a health organization. Thus, many of the US organizations have committed valuable resources to enhance the nurses’ career progression. It is undebatable that the magnet program requires professional practice that includes autonomy, professional development, quality of care, transformational leadership, and the structure of an organization (Pabico, 2018, p. 48). Adequate nursing staff in an organization and involvement in creating the strategies enables improvement in quality care. I agree that quality improvement initiatives begin with the participation of the health care providers, whereby the program comes first instead of the outcomes associated with the processes.
