Public Policy and Information Technology
From this course, I have learned that the government impacts information technology (IT) through laws governing the sector, specific policies, regulations, and judicial decisions. This course has been exciting to study and research. One of the readings I found most interesting was the reading on implementing information technology across the globe. I realized how quickly and profoundly, digital data processing has changed the way business is done in the world. I also found the reading on government involvement quite interesting. I understood how the government acts as a market player through being the boss, being a financial partner, and a regulator.
The discussion on entrepreneurship in the global economy was my favorite discussion. It made me realize how entrepreneurship is an important tool for economic growth. From other people’s discussions, I learned about nations that have received tremendous growth through the government emphasizing the need for entrepreneurship and setting up policies that encourage it. Another interesting discussion was the discussion on global technology: changes and implications. I found out that different students have different perceptions of global technology.
My perspective towards information technology has changed after studying the course. I used to view information technology as an ever-evolving way of making work easier and well-executed. I now view it as a tool that gives people more control over their lives. I find information technology as contributing to a better way of life. Freedom of mobility also arises from I.T. and continues to increase with the development of new technological ideas.
The course has broadly covered I.T. and public policies towards it. However, I would like it if more focus was made on adapting to the ever-changing environment of information technology. Students would be enabled to easily adapt to new technologies, global transfers, and analysis. More discussions should be made for students to share knowledge on the current trends in information technology globally. Generally, the course has been really educational, and I have learned many public policies on information technology.
