Personality
Learning about one’s personality, strengths, and weaknesses are beneficial as they help one identify with their strength and learn what they need to work on to be better. This is beneficial career-wise and also on a personal level. It enhances both life and job satisfaction (Baumert et al. 2017). In the course of learning about self, the personality test is one great tool that helps reveal a lot of information. The personality test helped me learn a lot about my personality and some of the traits that came in handy in my career. This paper will focus on some of the traits discovered when taking the personality tests and their impact on my career.
Personality Type
The test revealed my personality type as the ENTJ or rather the “Chief.” These findings were based on the preferences of extraversion, intuition, thinking, and judging (My personality Max report). Chiefs are known for their hard work, leadership capabilities, decisiveness, analytical prowess, confidence, rationality, future-oriented, just, and thick-skinned. All these traits are useful in leadership positions. I have served as a supervisor, which was a leadership position. Most of the traits of a chief are what propelled me to that position and have helped me serve accordingly. For instance, it is through hard work that my superiors noticed my potential and promoted me to a senior position. Being extraverted has helped me motivate and create a workplace filled with positive energy. Additionally, being analytical has helped me solve conflicts and challenges that arise at the workplace. My personality traits as chief have also seen me through my entrepreneurial journey. The spirit of hard work, decisiveness, and confidence came in handy when getting started and have also helped me attain good profits and grow my business. I am also able to manage my staff effectively and efficiently thanks to my leadership skills.
Utilization of strengths and weaknesses
Reaction to criticism
I respond positively to criticism, and this has been really beneficial. This ability has enabled me to learn and gain experience. In order to meet customer satisfaction, feedback is paramount. Some of the feedback received is negative, and my ability to take criticism positively enables me to learn where the problem was and make amends to avert such a scenario in the future.
Honor to commitment
Another of my strengths is that I honor commitments. This ability has helped me meet strict deadlines and avoid trouble in my career. I am also able to meet my clients’ needs and expectations in a timely manner. This is critical in business, and it has helped me attain a huge clientele and ensure their satisfaction.
Verbal fluency and eloquence.
Being an eloquent speaker enables me to relay information effectively to the staff in my enterprise and also to the subordinates as a supervisor. As per (Antoncic et al., 2015), managers are required to communicate effectively as communication is important in an organization. I am also able to meet and interact with different clients and understand their needs because of my verbal skills.
Independent decision making
Being an independent decision-maker has enabled me to make sound and unbiased decisions. This is a skill best at work when solving conflicts among staff and subordinates.
Interpersonal intelligence
As per the test, I score moderately strongly on interpersonal intelligence. This entails the ability to easily make friends and establish rapport with strangers. With this trait, I am able to easily interact with staff and subordinates. This ability also makes me an approachable leader, and the people under me believe they can come to me when an issue arises. I am also quick at landing new clients, which has contributed greatly to my success in business. Moreover, some of the people I have interacted with have also been beneficial in terms of advice. I may not know everything and neither the best decision to make, but my networking ability has helped me interact with people who have helped me in decision making and coming up with new ideas. As per (Robbins and Judge, 2019), networking is important for effective managers.
Weaknesses
Impulsive
At times impulsive decision making can be catastrophic. I am not always impulsive; however, there are times that I can’t help it. This is a weakness that has led me to make decisions that may sabotage my business. In the knowledge of this, I decided to always consult before making a major decision while in the process of learning to avoid making impulsive decisions. I have also learned to gather as much information as I can contemplate, analyze the facts, and then make a sound decision.
Conclusion
As much as it is believed that leaders are created, there are some personality traits that will help one lead effectively. Not everyone was meant to be a leader; hence it is important to learn one’s personality and then do what is best. Personality tests are great in depicting one’s preferences, and with such results, one is able to choose a career path that is associated with the particular trait. This will help in selecting jobs that are fulfilling and enhances satisfaction.
