Previous Experience
I want to study the MSc Cyber Security course at the University of York since I am very interested in the topics covered by the university, particularly Forensic Analysis of Cyber Incidents and Networks & Communications Security. My interest in these areas was initially stimulated during my undergraduate studies, where I covered Cryptography, Networks, and Secure Computing. Your course covers similar topics, but by joining the university, I will be introduced to new areas of Forensic Analysis of Cyber Incidents, Networks & Communications Security, which will broaden my knowledge and understanding of the topics as a whole.
How I Meet the Entry Requirements
During my Cryptography module, I was exposed to fundamental cryptographic algorithms and techniques, modern symmetric and public-key cryptosystems, risks of inventing one’s own cryptographic methods, and cryptographic protocols and their properties. I achieved a very high grade in this module, and I am keen to build on my interest in research during the Cryptography element of the course. In addition, I attained a very high grade for my Networks and Secure Computing, where I leaned about network protocols and applications, network architecture and security, and network programming. I am expecting to attain a 2.1, which I hope will demonstrate my academic ability to study at this level.
Motivations
My aim is to deepen my knowledge of how to overcome malware since I have been at risk of being infected by them. I love the idea of different types of hackers as in black hat, white hat, grey hat, ever since I have experienced what life is like when black hat hackers are making attempts to try and diverge user’s personal information. The need to protect people from the negative implications of hackers has motivated me to pursue further studies on cybersecurity at the University of Yale. The need to study further about penetration testing is another factor that motivated me to pursue a MSc Cyber Security course. Given the increasing threats to cybersecurity, understanding penetration testing will help me to validate the IT system of my organization besides performing whitebox testing and blackbox testing. Apart from penetration testing, I am motivated by the wide range of career opportunities that are available, including counter-terrorism, digital forensics, incident response, security auditing, law, legalities and compliance, code analysis, and security architecture that I will have the capacity to join once I am through with this course.
The MSc Cyber Security course offered by the University of York is certified by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC). This is a very important achievement since I will utilize it as an opportunity to join recognized security institutions locally and globally. As one of the few cybersecurity Master degrees in the UK, NCSC accreditation has been based on the quality programs that are offered. In this regard, this course will help me make proper cybersecurity decisions besides effective addressing of issues like trust and reputation, malware and intrusion detection, network security, and creation of high-assurance systems that are highly demanded in the global market.
I am particularly keen to study at the Department of Computer Science because of your reputation for excellence in this field. Following the completion of the MSc Cyber Security course through commitment, proper time management, and collaboration with my instructor in the department, I would like to study a PhD.
