- Main point: The Dalai Lama is the spiritual leader of the yellow hat school of Buddhism in Tibet. The current leader of Tibetan Buddhism is the 14th Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso.
- Tenzin Gyatso was born in 1935 in a small village in Tibet.
- He was selected through a search conducted by the Buddhist officials, as stated by an article by the BBC.
- According to the article, “a search party of Buddhist officials recognized him as the reincarnation of the 13 previous Dalai Lamas and he was enthroned before he turned four” (BBC 2011).
- Through a series conducted by the Buddhist officials, Tenzin Gyatso was confirmed as the reincarnation of the 13th Dalai Lama, Thubten Gyatso.
