Paula Wallace SCAD Journey in DESIGN Culture
Savannah College of Art was founded in 1978 to develop a differentiated curriculum that can create specific careers as demand in specialization increases. The founder, Paula Wallace, has been in teacher almost all her adult life. Starting as a public school teacher in Atlanta, she strengthened her parenting skills, nurturing, educating, and designing curriculum to suit different students. In this employment, she realized that public education systems had created a normalized career system that creates entanglements and antagonism between employers and employees.
At Paula Wallace SCAD, a unique combination of students across the four campuses can be observed. Most of these students are recruited from prestigious companies such as Google and Samsung. Their idea of intentionality has helped develop more than one hundred new degrees that prepare students for their specialized profession. Paula Wallace is a woman who does what she says. Her students have a 99% employment rate, demonstrating that the programs and degrees offered are designed to create meaningful changes in the communities, homes, and lives.
The productivity rate of the university has mainly come from person to person advertising. Alumni from Paula Wallace SCAD continue to recruit their families into this institution that improved their lives. The university’s productivity rate is credited to the student selection and the curriculum that is prepared.
