The pacific island societies face many problems in terms of how the outsiders have portrayed them. They experience a lot of misrepresentation from the outside world, and they are represented differently. Politically they are attached to other foreign nations, which give them the affiliation of the power they should give attention to. They are military rent use and further aids in exchange for money and labor. The islands that are in a position to stand independently do not receive much assistance. The living standards are low in comparison with those that receive foreign help.

The aid received goes a long way to maintain the government and to keep the social services running. It also employs the people in the islands. In the long-term, the foreign nations end up using the people in the islands to their advantage. Economically, they cannot develop on a more extensive phase since the aid they get is in exchange for their natural resources. Therefore, foreign investors evaluate what they offer for the small amount of the local resources they acquire from the islands. Their exports are minimal, and that goes to the more developed states, meaning that their returns are proportionally on edge. They, therefore, become dependent on foreign aid since they can’t do it alone.

Due to the aggressive market strategies, they cannot raise their livelihood since the wages are also low. Globalization has come with the discovery and extraction of natural resources. Often the islands are displayed as significant places for the production of natural resources and provision of labor. These activities disrupt communities since they keep being moved from one place to another as the foreigners search for help. It means that the islands do not have the opportunity to have social amenities and development. The pacific island communities have been represented in a manner that does not favor their marine resources. The food that is available, mainly the fish, is their leading food for consumption. The foreigners aim to take advantage of that and commercialize the fish industry, taking out all the export resources. The foreigners take advantage of the fish fleets, and the islanders only receive very little of the money that comes from the made sale.

Often islands are interpreted as paradises for their scenery, which attracts a lot of tourism. These areas can receive thousands of visitors yearly. It means that they receive a lot of money from the tourists; however, this is a misinterpretation since most of the money goes to other foreign states in exchange for their aid to the pacific islands. The foreigners bring in giant corporations that take over most of the investments in the islands. The local enterprises are left with tiny spaces to invest in themselves. They become employees in the large establishments made contributing to the economic progression of the area. In real life, the pacific islands have too much potential if only they were in a position to operate independently. In almost all identities, their cultures are valid, and they deserve recognition and respect.

The sheer magnitude of destruction that they go through makes it even more difficult for them to rise from the suffering they experience. The intensity of the interactions they make with the outside world makes them forget themselves at the foreigners’ expense. It has led to a lot of social, economic inequalities among the people. In response to the big question, the pacific islands are drowning and fighting at the same time. The foreign take over has led to the interruption of social relations and the weakening of their identity. They have lost their identity. Their cultures have been affected because other people have taken over their islands. They cannot practice their cultural activities, ending up running in the fight to at least have part of the island left to them. They end up living troubled lives as they have not been able to establishments that they could be responsible for. The struggle to exist independently is somewhat unreasonable, which a situation these people have found themselves in is. They, therefore, end up being belittled and used. Through their economic struggle, the fight for them to be involved is still lagging as mainly they are isolated from all their plans that may be discussed, leading to changes and growth. They have always yearned for an era of autonomy, making their reality quite tricky. In this bleak of existence, the implications bring up reactions that continue crumbling their way of living. It also leads to a lot of hopelessness, making the local understanding disorganized and autonomous. The fight to maintain their ethnicity has also been a struggle; however, in exploring their ethnic ties, they have based their origins with other foreign states that they are familiar with and are close to them.
