Operations in Health Department

As an Operational Director in a health department, I oversee all activities in the whole health organization. It’s my responsibility to manage the organization’s resources, evolve, and execute a plan to ensure that all processes are followed properly. Besides, I must evaluate organizational proficiency and make changes where required to maximize staff output. As the Director of Operation, I assess the requirements of the Department, find ways to build a good public image, and ensure all-day activities are carried out efficiently.

Staffs play a major role in the Health Department, which contributes to success. Different staff got different responsibilities in the Health Department. Staff in this Department can be categorized in four different areas (Ross & Brownson, 1900-1907). The medical staff (doctors), nurses, associated health professionals, and the subordinate staff. They all unity and work as a team towards the plans and the aims developed by the Operational Director.

The medical staff has different roles and responsibilities categorized from their experiences and their specialized field. When patients visit the hospital, they can be attended by different doctors ( Roger & Susan, 1102-1105). There are the senior consultants who are specialists, and they attend to the patient at different times. The registrar doctor’s responsibilities are to supervise the residents, interns, and student doctors. The residents are under training for specializations, and their responsibility is to take care of the inpatients. Interns are fresh graduates in their final year in the hospital, while the student doctors are undergraduates in medical studies.

Nurses are the managers of the ongoing activities of care and treatment for patients in the hospital. They normally evaluate, plan, and oversee daily treatment and control the general health of the patients. Patients can always consult them, and they can be assured of the correct direction and help with their needs. Like doctors, nurses are also categorized according to their experiences and specialization (Milton, 154-160). The nurse unit supervisor’s responsibility is to run the wards with his associate nurse unit supervisor’s help. Registered nurses are the ones that contribute highly to everyday care to the patients and do small procedures.

Associate Health Professionals are highly educated practitioners whose responsibility is working as multi-disciplinary in the Health Department. They normally assess, do diagnoses, and treat some conditions to prevent some diseases or disabilities. Examples them include the dietitians, occupational therapist, pharmacists, and speech pathologist, among others. Some allied health professionals are trained to assist their colleagues in their roles.

For quality services, the health departments require proper administration and organization. In the hospital, the subordinate staff’s roles are essential to the successful operations at every point. These staffs include the clinical assistants who are in charge of keeping the wards clean. The patient’s services assistants ensure that the patients have eaten. Volunteers’ major help is on fundraising and visiting the inpatients.

As the Operational Director of the Health Department, I will offer the following programs to the community. To start with, the Neighborhood Emergency Preparedness Program that serves the purpose of arranging and teaching the community on the readiness to manage any health issues that may emerge in the future. Through this program, mobilizing and engaging with the community will help nurture self-sufficiency in the neighboring community. The health terms are made ready to work together to prepare, communicate, data sharing, and bring together events in advance, during and after, emergency.

A widespread community health evaluation and health development preparations are the sources of cultivating and stimulating a healthier community. The program’s target will be to ensure that the community is healthy. The target is achieved by using data collection, analyzing them, and teaching the society around us on health hazards they might encounter in the future and how to prevent them. The community’s health is the priority, and therefore gathering health resources is done together with plans of how to improve their health.

Initiating a voluntary health service programs will help the community in solving health issues. Provision of care, counseling, and educational talks on health-related matters are done using the programs. Vaccinating kids, adolescents, and adults, including expectant mothers, form some diseases and disabilities, fall under this category. Setting up meetings to guide the community towards emerging health issues, for instance, the pandemics like Corona Virus, online meetings were held to give the community measures and cautions to avoid spreading the disease (Lydia & Rebecca, 612-619). Under this program, the health departments can collaborate with other well-wishers and the government to create a healthy community environment. Ensuring the residents of the county are in a clean environment reduces health risks.

Refugee Health Programs will be provided whenever needed. Caring for individuals from other countries searching for peace and better lives is much considered by health departments. Medical examinations are done, and immunization for the refugees where needed.  Great care, including the provision of food, shelters, and medicines, is given to them through the offices in charge of these matters.

Technology advancement has to take the direction of changing every field, including the health departments.  The role of technology in the health departments has changed everything, including the patient’s registration, information observing from the laboratory examinations, and self-care tools and equipment. The use of technology in the health departments has resulted in more efficient work than the manual era. Some of the technologies I will use in my operations are discussed below.

The electronic health record is one of the most used technologies in the health sectors. It creates a major stride in collecting the patient’s information is efficiently recorded for future purposes. It mainly contains the patient’s medical information, detects, medications, cure plans, vaccinations times, and test site results, among others (William & Christian, 224-230). The electronic health record provides evidence that can be accessed in the future with the correct decision-making. It also provides an automated, streamlined workflow.

The mHealth is a wireless device that will help connect the physicians, and the patient connects and can view the processes simultaneously. It enables the patient to be active in treatment procedures and provide communication to the biometrics. The most important fact about the mHealth is that it has managed to take health care out of the office, from the laboratory and made it part of life. One can manage to connect with their doctors and be helped from their home or work place. Health life is made easy by mHealth.

Portal technology is very important in the health departments since the patients have become more active in their healthcare and help them achieve it. The patients and the physicians will be able to access medical records at a go and interact online. Patients being more involved in their healthcare they get to learn a lot about their bodies and health. Additionally, the portal technology empowers patients and makes them more responsible health wise.

The self-service kiosk is a similar technology to the portal. It serves to enable the patients to register to the hospital without physically appearing there (John & Tim, 256-266). Time is saved, and the Self-services kiosk technology will represent resources too since some staff and the patients are more comfortable with it. It also helps the patients pay the co-pays, check their credentials, filing paperwork, and other registration documents. The technology can be utilized for both in and outpatients.

Sensors and wearable technology are advancing at a very high rate. Wearable serves the purpose of data collection, which is the primary goal of health services. They work like alerts for the service giver to the patients. All things used in the health service sectors that got some alerts are examples of the sensors and wearable technology.

In conclusion, as an Operational Director of the Health Department in my county, I will ensure that the community is served and treated well. since it’s their right and the primary goal. I will observe all staff’s rights and ensure they are treated right that will motivate them to give out quality work hence the achievements of the department goals. Since technology has advanced, making work easy and saving time, I will make full use of it and ensure delays at work are minimized, and workers are not overloaded with work. Proper collaboration with the staff, patients, and technology utilization will yield to high goals achieving.
