The problem faced by the department as a result of the impact of the Corona Virus
-Coronavirus has hurt the department’s productivity. The decline in productivity can be associated with the organization’s adoption of the remote working approach.
- Remote working-The department’s productivity in the face of Corona Virus
-The coronavirus pandemic has forced the department to change its mode of operations by adopting the remote working approach.
– Remote working is a new approach that most of the department’s employees are not accustomed with.
-The remote working approach has increased the feeling of isolation among the employees. The approach has eliminated face-to-face collaboration within and between teams in executing projects and job tasks.
-The employees have to make a significant adjustment to balance between work and the need to work from home hence affecting the employees’ productivity.
- Distractions and interruptions-remote working are increasingly affecting employee productivity as a result of the prevalence of distractions and interruptions associated with working from home.
- The hazard of interruptions and distractions in remote working- Many employees working from home are facing interruptions and distractions because of the unstructured working environments.
- Sources of distractions-the interruptions range from housework, friends, and family, and by smart-gadgets.
- The distractions by the smart gadgets overlap with the time that the employee requires to work hence reducing productivity.
- The employees’ failure to meet the deadline as a result of distractions and interruptions leads to an increase in high levels of stress and anxiety.
- The high levels of stress and anxiety translate into a decline in employee productivity.
- Technical challenges– remote working is hurting employee productivity due to the prevalence of technical challenges.
-Among the technical challenges include a lack of the necessary technology infrastructure to support remote working. For example, poor internet connectivity in some areas is affecting the employees’ productivity in working from home.
-Some employees do not have the necessary knowledge on how to use the information communication technologies (ICT) necessary to facilitate their process of working from home.
- Difficulty in managing remote workers
-Managing a team of remote workers poses a major challenge because of the absence of a one-on-one meeting with the employees which is necessary for boosting their morale in undertaking their job roles and responsibilities.
-Lack of a one-on-one meeting which was a part of the department’s culture is making the employees feel out of touch with their company.
