New Testament and Christianity are based on the gospel of Jesus Christ, whose Greek word is Christos, or the ‘anointed one.’ The basics of this gospel started in the Garden of Eden. The sin became the nature of humans, thus requiring the grace for the redemption of humanity. The Romans became an empire, conquering the dynasties in 31 BCE and took control of Jews territories. However, there are some crucial differences between Christianity Religion and Greco-Roman Pagan religions.
In my view, one notable difference between Christianity and mythology is the Christians’ belief in one God, while in mythology, they believe in multiple different gods. Christians preaching of a new king was as a revolution to the pagan customs perceptions. Britannica (2020) explains that the Christians opposition led to peace breaches. The Greco-Roman Pagan religions believed in more than one God, but Christianity doctrine believed in one God, one of the conflicts. Angel fire (n.d) argues that in Christianity, Yahweh is the personal God of Israel, and He forbids the worship of other gods.
Additionally, in Christianity, God’s features are in the bible, but nobody has ever interacted or seen Him, which raises some questions and arguments concerning His Existence and looks. Christian’s way of connecting and communicating to God is through prayers and going to church, and they believe that God has a purpose over everything, even their own lives. In Contrast, the mythology, such as in Enuma Elish, Odysseus, can physically see and interact with their Gods (such as Athena, the goddess), Belief in the concept of fate.
The belief in the afterlife is another difference between the mythology religions and Christianity. Christianity believes that the afterlife is very important and is dependent on the choices made while on earth. The immortality in Christianity is readily attainable through righteousness (Angel fire, n.d). On the contrary, the pagan customs believe that afterlife was only for a minority group directly connected to the gods. The differences led to several conflicts and persecutions of Christians.
