Nemesis in Eight men out
Many people would do anything to get money. Eight men out film show how eight professionally trained baseball players wanted to forego their careers to gain more money by participating in a fix to ensure that they lose in the game. It’s a story that has characters who depict nemesis. Nemesis is defined as a long-standing rivalry or enemy.
The first character, Charles Comiskey who was the owner of the team depicted nemesis towards Eddie Cicotte who was a pitcher and a star on this baseball team. Charles Comiskey had promised to reward Eddie Cicotte with ten thousand dollars if he helped the team to win. Nemesis Charles was a stingy person to his players so he did not fulfill his promise to give the bonus to Cicotte who deserved it. This, therefore, pushed pitcher Cicotte to bring out his pride and he participated in the fix to make his team lose as a form of revenge.
Besides, Charles Comiskey depicted nemesis to Cicotte as
when he was almost winning thirty games for the season, he gave orders to Kid Gleason who was the team manager, to bench him making him miss five starts arguing that he needed a rest. This, therefore, prevented him from winning for him to get the bonus. Cicotte wanted to be secured financially, he showed his pride when he went into the office of his boss claiming that he deserved the money.
Eight men out film clearly illustrate how breaking promises can lead to big challenges to both parties. It also teaches that reacting to nemesis in the name of revenge could lead to negative effects.
