Managing Employee Wellnesses

 

Employee wellness incorporates different essential processes that build a stronger commitment and intrinsic motivation to perform organizational tasks. Most organizations have focused on the monetary aspect when explaining the need to improve employee needs’ organizational performance and management. However,  employee wellness involves the daily management of employee needs, which include their diet. Management of diet help creates an understanding of employee output. Thus controlling these factors creates a more interactive environment where an employee can perform to their potential.

Baucis (2013) provided an emphasis on how the employee diet defines their input at work. The author identifies that there has been a significant shift in how food is perceived within the workplace. Initially, food was mainly associated with keeping employees fed and sustained and was often considered a distraction. However, this perception has significantly shifted with food being associated with happier employees who are more committed and productive. The author identifies a need to revolutionize employee wellness through the provision of quality food and not just mystery meat. Excellent food was associated with the improved recruitment process and employee retainment and productivity through the encouragement of employees to stay on campus for a meal rather than wasting time getting to a nearby restaurant.

The baseline experience was successful and thus was considered a turning point in building advanced focus on the nutritional aspect and performance among employees. The food experience has greatly transformed workplace engagement among employees. As a result of improved food experience, workplaces have ceased to be just where employees are engaged in a fixed 40 hours a week but a space with fluid hours and rhythms defined by inspiration, which is highly innovative.

Annually around 39.2 million lost days are recorded in the united states. These are challenges that can be controlled through the development of well-defined wellness programs.

According to an article published by Travelperk, employee wellness has become a critical aspect of organizational development for a company seeking to attract and retain top talents. An organization must ensure that its employees’ wellbeing is effectively managed to present a well-outlined context for business change. Wellness programs in the United States have been attributed to a 127% reduction in healthcare costs across different organizations.  Approximately 80% of employees involved in these programs feel more engaged and committed to performing their duties successfully. It is also worth noting that different organizations employ different wellness programs. Business owners need to understand the need to promote wellness programs for the success of their organizations.

Schaeffer’s (2015) business of workplace wellness is booming, and many dieticians are getting involved to help create better plans. The wellness business is worth approximately $6 billion in the United States annually. In 2014 approximately 92% of the companies with 200 employees or more had some form of wellness program in place. These programs mainly emphasize on health, diet, and lifestyle. The advancement in wellness programs for employees has improved significantly in the last ten years with a stronger focus on implementing strategic measures that protect change and improve efficiency.

Human resources are also responsible for developing a better strategy where compensation is based on the responsibilities that are accorded to each employee in their respective positions. Organization concept in human resource involves identifying fundamental concepts which influence organization performance and ensure that they conform to the set values, mission, and vision statements. The need to integrated essential organizing strategies is vital to having a successful organization development.

Therefore, in conclusion,  wellness programs in the workplace are an advancing concept where companies seek to develop a more diverse system to accommodate the needs of employees, focusing on diet, livelihood, and health. Incorporating these processes helps create a more advanced understanding of key processes that can advance positive strategies implemented within the workplace.  However, the inability to address all employees’ needs makes it difficult to accomplish the needed goals. The mental and psychological well-being is largely linked to mental exhaustion, which negatively impacts employee performance and commitment to meet employees’ needs, especially during challenges. Different aspects have been considered in determining the compensation and benefits that different employees are entitled to within the respective organization. However, employees’ wellness is equally important, especially in improving performance through the management of their diet, health, and lifestyle.
