Live Concert Review Report
For this assignment, I watched was Nina Simeone’s concert in Holland. She was performing by playing the piano and singing along to the slow beat. I chose to be a perceptive listener because I wanted to get to define the music by the appropriate musical terminology. This is because I wanted to grow increasingly aware of the various styles of music in jazz. When I listen in usual listening to music, I am a casual listener who plays music to keep me busy. However, for this concert, I had to be perceptive to attain want I wanted to get.
The performer of this concert was Nina, who was singing to the music as she plays the piano. She performs the “Brown Baby” song. She wishes all the best for the brown baby. The style of the songs she performs is similar. The reiterations of the music had unity, and the keys were slow, and the singing was emotional. However, tonal variations mark the performances. The style of the played pieces was all Blues. The prominent voices of the instruments were majorly the piano. The allegro was the basic tempo of the music. However, the tempo went on increasing and also falling. Therefore, it can be described as accelerando. However, the volume kept on rising and falling at the end.
Consequently, it can be characterized as a crescendo. The voice was a bit dim as each line was being sung, then it increased, becoming louder. Legato was played as the melody of the march, and no silences were heard in between the lines. The performance of Nina Simeone was impressive, with the voice and the instrumentals marching each other, creating a famous masterpiece.
The second performance that I have listened to and watched is untamed elegance Jazz at Lincoln Center. The first song that the orchestra plays is entitled “The Business of America is Business.” The music begins with some strong instrumentals being played, especially the Trumpets and violin being noted. These two instruments, along with the drum set, are being played by expert instrumentalists in the orchestra. Instrumentals dominate the music, and it is performed in a manner that would make one feel joyous and in high spirits. The pulse of the rhythm can be defined as consistent. The tune has a melody that is conjunct and also has harmonies that are consonantal.
The third piece of the jazz that is have watched is Al Jarreau, Jazz Vocalist in a live concert. This band was performing in Munich. The members of the group areAl Jarreau the vocalist, Jota Morelli, as the Director, Freddi Ravel, the Keyboardist. Also, Freddi Ravel plays the role of a vocalist while Ross Bolton is a guitarist. Another member of the band is Chris Walker. The music played by this group serves as an inspiration to the audience. There is a lot of unity with a steady rhythm being noted. The melody started strong, but in the middle, it becomes delicate in between. There are some consonantal harmonies pointed out alongside a dissonance. I can describe this piece of performance as a stable and vibrant musical culture. The music being played makes the audience feel relaxed, and their mood becomes enhanced. This happens with instrumentals taking the main center stage with the keyboard coming out strong. The piece is flawlessly performed.
