Topic: Literature Analysis
Objective:
This essay aims to use a point-by-point format to identify the similar major themes addressed in the two literature pieces drawing examples from the literature pieces.
Main idea 1:
The theme of betrayal is well presented in these two literature pieces.
Supportive statement 1:
In the Falling Song, David feels betrayed by what life and fate offer to him. He does not get what he desires, which is to bond with the natural environment. Instead, he lives in the city, and all his desires remain in his imagination.
Supportive statement 2:
In the story, By The River, Crystal deals with the highest betrayal level when her husband leaves her with no apparent reason for six months without communicating with her. She is deeply affected. She can’t accept the fact and frequently waits at the train station, hoping her husband would someday return to her.
Main idea 2:
The theme of dissatisfaction is evident in all these literature pieces.
Supportive statement 1:
In the Falling song, the narrator uses David to show this theme. David lives in a city full of modern and boring views, far from what he truly desires. He is more interested in the natural world. He creates an image of what he wishes to experience.
Supportive statement 2:
Dissatisfaction in the book, By The River, is tied to Crystal’s lack of beauty. Jim seemed to regret his choice of partner, based on her appearance and looks. The author writes, “even she could tell she was not pretty.” Jim was dissatisfied with his wife’s beauty.
Main idea 3:
The theme of hope is majorly expressed better in the book, By The River.
Supportive statement 1:
David keeps his imaginations with the hope of experiencing his wishes.
Supportive statement 2:
Crystal goes to the train station often for six months, hoping that her husband would return home to her one day.
