Libertarianism
How would a Libertarian fix the problems facing America today?
Libertarianism is described as the political philosophy and a movement that supports and promotes the freedom of individuals (Boaz). Besides, libertarianism is also viewed as the conservative for the issues facing the economy and the freedom of the people. In the United States, libertarianism is the third greatest party which engage in promoting civil freedom, limits the scope and size of the government and non-interventionism (Boaz). The party opposes the views presented by democratic and Republican party of modern liberalism and conservatism respectively.
America engages in war with other countries after intervening on the conflict between the countries. Libertarians believe that it not worth it for America to intervene to solve war between other countries in the name of their safety (Levy, p.76). The results of the intervention affect the American citizens who might die due to bombing. The libertarians believe that each country requires political liberty and therefore, America should let other countries to solve their differences. Besides, libertarianism intends to solve issues such as abortion, land ownership, capital punishment, foreign affairs, immigration, inheritance, limited government, intellectual property, and race and sex, slavery, unemployment and taxation.
The main issue that is addressed by libertarianism includes racism and unemployment. Libertarians condemn the laws that favor or discriminate any race and sex. The laws such as interracial marriage bans, state segregation and Jim Crow laws discriminated people based on their ethnicities (Levy, p.86). Libertarians believed that doing away with these laws and not engaging the government to solve the racial problem will pave a way to non-racial society. Furthermore, the racial discrimination problem within the American could be solved through establishing a free market which will see most people engage in business. The drive to make a profit in businesses will result in the diminishing nature of the racism in America (Levy, p.92). The strict rules governing the business which are set by the government of the United States impose high tax and revenues such as land ownership revenues which make it hard to start businesses.
The implementation of the taxes and other revenues in the business sector leads to joblessness, thus increasing the number of unemployed people in the country. The unemployment rate of American as of 2020 is 7.9% of the total population which is as a result of high tax in the marketplace which forces people to search for the limited white-collar jobs in the society (Levy, p.112). Libertarians believe that introduction of a free market will solve the issue of unemployment and land ownership revenues by providing equal chance top people in the society to venture into business as an alternative for the white-collar jobs. Engaging in business provides people with freedom more than being employed where people work under conditions and the policy of the working place.
Libertarians argue that the issues of unemployment can be put under control through free market and withdrawal of tax from the business (Levy, p.129). Again, libertarians view the government as the cause of the unemployment state of the people for being harsh on the citizens to pay taxes and land ownership revenues whereas it is not investing in solving the unemployment problem through programs. The perception of libertarianism as a political philosophy on the nature of unemployment of the people of America identifies the potholes in the government and suggests the possible solution to the unemployment state of the American citizens (Levy, 142). Libertarianism has an independent view on the government as compared to the republican view of conservatism and democratic view of modern liberalism where it blames all the problems facing the country on the government structure and components.
