The disagreements between two or more people in emotional, personal, professional, or physical manners are interpersonal conflicts. Interpersonal conflicts cannot be avoided because of the constant human interactions with one another. According to Bevan, conflicts in relationships are caused by jealousy that leads to behavioral, cognitive, and emotional reactions. Disputes that arise from jealousy are, in most cases, meant to protect a particular relationship from breaking by not allowing external forces into the relationship. Many television shows and films depict different interpersonal conflicts that are, in most cases, not handled in proper ways. An excellent example of a television show that depicts poor handling of conflicts among individuals is us, produced by Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger.

Fighting is one of the negative ways of handling conflicts. This is us Television show’s final episode; there ensued a brutal fight between Kevin and Rendall’s characters. Kevin and Rendall are brothers who disagree almost in the entire movie because of having conflicting ideas. The fundamental cause of conflict between Kevin and Rendall is their clashing on how to take care of their mother, who had Rebecca’s character name. According to Randall, their mother was supposed to take a clinical trial. At the same time, Kevin wanted to respect their mother’s wishes of having more time to bond with her children and family instead of going for the clinical tests that could waste time. In the season four of the final episode, Randall had secretly taken Rebecca for the clinical trial without Kevin’s consent (Video, n.d). When Kevin learned about that, he confronted Rendall leading to an argument that involved exchanging bitter words that made them reveal a lot of family secrets. As the fight between Rendall and Kevin became worse, Justin had to intervene and break the argument.

Instead of fighting, it is essential to solving disputes between families and friends through mediation, proper negotiation, and arbitration. Kevin and Rendall didn’t have to get themselves involved in a fight because of helping their mother. Fighting could have caused more negative physical and emotional torture resulting in more problems apart from Rebecca’s illness (Beckett & Beckett, 2004). Kevin and Rendall could have involved an impartial third party who would apply proper negotiation and communication techniques in neutral ways that would bring down their rage through mediation. Moreover, instead of fighting, Kevin and Rendall could have calmed down and applied proper negotiation that would have helped them reach effective agreements (Goldberg et al.,2014). Arbitration has some similarities with meditation; however, in arbitration, the conflicting parties submit their dispute to a third party of their choice, making a binding decision to solve their

conflict.

Conflicting parties need to solve their conflicts in healthy ways to ensure their disputes do not result in destructive effects. The critical issue that people should consider before getting themselves involved in disputes is exercising anger control measures. Through healthy conflict resolution, there is an increased understanding of different people’s points of view, which contributes to building stronger relationships and trust among people. Proper conflict resolution creates individual peace and harmony with other people. Solving conflicts in professional and respectful ways has enabled most business organizations to boost collaboration among workers, good working relationships, and lesser disruptions at work.
