How Necessary Is a College Education?
Every student wants academic, social, and technical skills, career opportunities, and confidence for a successful career. Therefore, for one to get these skills college education is essential. College education is a massive investment in material resources and time. High school education is not enough for students to achieve their goals and access jobs with higher salaries. For instance, if you want to be an engineer, it requires you to complete six years college program. There are many reasons for the necessity of college education. These include best job opportunities, giving students a sense of responsibility, improving awareness, and confidence of students and understanding different aspect of life, and ambitions (KumarHi). College is a period where young people acquire knowledge of new possibilities and ideas.
Reasons for the Necessity of College Education
More job opportunities for college students. KumarHi says there are government and private jobs which requires a college degree. Having a college education helps students qualify for these jobs. For instance, if a student has a nursing degree, he has a chance to access a nursing job in either government or private sector. Many employers want students applying for jobs to have a college education. People who have a college education get a higher salary than those with high school education. For example, according to Bureau, people with high school education who works full time, earn an average salary of $28,000, while individuals with a college education earn $61000.
Improvement in confidence and awareness (Harackiewicz et al., 220). College degree increases the confidence status of students. In college, students acquire freedom from the new discipline environment of the college. The rules of college are not as strict as the high school rules such as having the same clothing for all years. There is no specific strict dress code for students in colleges. Harackiewicz et al. explain these make college students change their observation, thinking, style, attitude and they acquire maturity (220). In college, people interact with different kind of people which makes them confident and increases their awareness.
A college education provides a sense of responsibility. In college, the professors do not teach everything in class lessons; instead, they usually ask students to research a particular topic on their own compared to high school where teachers teach all lessons according to Mayhew. This requires students to study and do homework; also they have to research the methods of learning on their own. In colleges, there are internet and library facilities which provide students research books and journals. Therefore, it gives college students the responsibility to learn.
A college education increases knowledge of the various aspect of life and career. In college, you gain many things for analysis; for example; you interact with people from different cultures and areas. Samuelson describes in his article that some of the individuals have different talents such as dancing, and also some are intelligent in class and are great in leadership. They are thereby leading to competition among the students. Competition makes one stand out during job interviews. Students with the same hobbies and interests usually have a sense of making friends. This constitutes of a company, and the thinking of the company gives either positive or negative benefits among students in “The Top 5 Reasons Why a College Education Is Important.”. For instance, if you find individuals who like studying and researching just like you. You will make friends, making a great company according to Trianto. As a result, you will new ideas from each other that will make you perform great in your college grades. Therefore, college students always analyze the great company to join which will make them achieve their goals. Hence, a college education is necessary.
Conclusion
College is a period where young people acquire knowledge of new possibilities and ideas. They study to fulfill their dreams through hard work. College environment provides students an insight to observe the behavior of other individuals. Through college education, individuals get more job opportunities, acquire a sense of responsibility, and knowledge about a various aspect of life, and career and improve in confidence and awareness. Therefore, a college education is necessary.
