Honest and Open Questions
Part I
What feelings arose for you while you were watching Melissa Moody’s story, an excerpt from the documentary film Happy? Name the emotions and the segment of the story that evoked them
As I watched Melissa Moody’s story, an excerpt from the documentary film Happy, I got feelings of anger and disgust. I felt bitter, irritated, mad, vengeful, disliked her sister-in-law, horrified, and uncomfortable with her situation. I felt like she should have avenged against her sister-in-law and remained uncomfortable with her situation and the events that led to her situation. I was disturbed with her sister-in-law’s actions, horrified, frustrated, infuriated, and more so disliked her and Melisa’s husband.
The story segments that evoke these emotional feelings began when a truck ran over her as she visited relatives in Texas. The accident disfigured her face leading to 30 reconstructive surgeries. The accident caused vision impairment. There is a scene in the documentary (accident scene) where the audience can see Melissa treading over a muddy road showing where she had an argument with her sister-in-law who drove off as Melissa’s hand was still stuck on the vehicle’s handle. Ms. Moody was trampled under the truck’s wheels. There is also a segment showing flashes of Ms. Moody’s wounds from the accident, consisting of patches of screaming red fresh, her head swollen, and what seems to have been retained as the nose.
The segments that follow occurred after the accident. Her husband divorced her after four years. Considering that she had become disabled, Ms. Moody had no income source, and there was no probability of securing a job. She was left almost blind by surgeries. Her body was hurting and became even tense whenever she became angry. The physical pain makes one feel sorry for her. In the hospital, Ms. Moody can only listen to harp and flute music since other forms of distractions became too disorienting.
