Hellenistic Break from Classical Style
- What are the characteristics of the Classical styles?
Classical style is mainly divided into three: Painting, sculpture, and architecture. In painting and sculpture, much emotion is shown to the subjects, and shapes and figures are well thought of, designed, and idealized. In architecture, there exists a strong mathematical base.
- 2. Why did art become more dramatic, varied, and emotional in the Hellenistic period?
This is because Alexander’s death is what resulted in the Hellenistic Greek Art from 323 B.C to 31 B.C. They worked hard to bring out human emotions through their works (Martin, 14). Art became varied due to the Greek conquering many lands, and their art put together with art from all the vast lands lead to the variation in art in the Hellenistic period.
- 3. What political, geographical, or other factors contributed to the change?
Alexander brought their Greek culture to several lands. It conquered, resulting in art in these regions merging with this new Greek influence to produce unique and different art from region to region.
- Give an example from the modern world when changes in style have occurred in relation to political, social, or historical factors. The change in style may be in art, fashion, architecture, or even music. Explain the change.
Music, as a social aspect of life, has greatly experienced changes in style. For example, the transition from Country Music in the West and Folk songs in the African continent has greatly transitioned to more recent and upgraded types of music like Hip hop, spoken word, rap songs, and many other new genres of music that have emerged in the world.
