Health Care Billing
When it comes to patient billing, financial health is critical for any health care organization. When there are errors, revenue is lost, and healthcare organizations can be subjected to severe consequences. When it comes to Medicare and Medicaid, billing errors should not be made since the consequences can be severe to the extent that the organization can be closed from practices for several years due to the negligence (Capozzola, 2017). For healthcare organizations to prevent these errors, they must adopt the technology. This paper will discuss how technology can help healthcare organizations in medical coding and comply with billing and reimbursement rules.
The best technology to install in a health organization is the electronic health record (EHR). EHR is an all-purpose system in a healthcare organization and plays many roles in health care. When it comes to coding, the system can translate the transcriptions from the physician, laboratory, and radiology. The only thing the system needs is a medical coding professional to feed in the information. The system will code the information correctly so that the health care providers are paid accordingly by the insurance carriers.
When it comes to billing, the EHR can help the healthcare organization bill the right information to the right person and avoid fraud cases. The system is an all-purpose technology that ensures the patient’s data is captured accurately and updated to the extent that a different middle name will be rejected by the system (Capozzola, 2017). Due to the maintained accurate patient data, it becomes easy for healthcare organizations to bill the right bills to the right patients. The systems ensure there are no potential errors in the bill since it has a feature to check errors in the bills automatically.
The EHR system also gets updated with current Medicare and Medicaid regulations, and therefore it becomes difficult to make an error due to negligence. Apart from that, the system is updated with the current trends in healthcare, and therefore chances of making an error, be it in coding or billing, are eliminated.
